She tried to be understanding, but she really didn’t like the fact that this woman had a thing for Bram, and she’d caused Addie a lot of heartache.

“She’ll still be getting a piece of my mind.” Bram’s hands balled into fists.

He wasn’t a storm, he was a big, grumpy bomb about to detonate.

Without thinking, Addie stepped close to him. “Bram, just take a breath. Everything worked out.”

He gripped her hips, and, startled, she pressed her hands to his chest.

“Her lies made you think I’d abandoned you. You were alone, looking for a new job and apartment.”

“I know,” she whispered. “But I made it.”

He made an annoyed sound. “Your apartment is shit, and you were on your feet in a bar, pregnant. And now… Now I learn you’ve been in danger for months. Some asshole is stalking you, and I didn’t know because of this woman.” He pulled Addie up on her toes and slid a hand into her hair.

Her heart was pounding; his cologne surrounded her. “Bram—”

“He could’ve hurt you.” His eyes boiled with emotion. “And that woman is to blame, and so is my own fucked-up stupidity in not asking Hex to find you sooner.”

Addie’s heart flip-flopped. He wasn’t just angry at this Pam woman, he was angry at himself.

She went up on her toes and brushed her lips along his jaw. “It’s not your fault. We found each other, and you saved me. We’ll work it out.”

He pulled her closer, breathed her in. She sensed some of the terrible tension drain out of him, but not all of it.

The elevator doors opened.

He let her go, but took her hand.

Addie glanced at Hex, and the woman winked at her. As Bram towed her out, she heard Hex whisper. “You tamed the beast.”

He pulled her through a hall of offices, then into the main reception area of Sentinel Security.

She’d been here before, but it had all been a blur. Now she took in the plush reception done in cool blues with modern furniture, and the Sentinel Security logo etched on the wall—a gold shield with a stylizedSin the center.

Two neat and tidy receptionists sat at a high desk, and when the older of the two rose from her chair, butterflies went crazy in Addie’s belly.

Pam was neat and professional, her brown hair well cut, but seeing her, knowing what she’d done, made one butterfly leap up and lodge in Addie’s throat.

“Pam,” Bram rumbled.

She shot him a dazzling smile. “Bram.” She skirted the desk. She wore a skirt suit in a rich blue. “How are you?”

“Pissed.”

Pam froze, and her gaze flicked to Addie and her mouth flattened. Then she looked at Addie’s stomach, and her face turned a sickly color. “I’m so—”

“Quiet. I just found out Addie left me messages that weredeliberatelynot forwarded to me.”

Pam clutched her hands together.

“And she came here to see me, and was turned away. By you.”

The older woman swallowed. “Bram—”

“By a rude, deluded, petty woman,” he added.

Pam jerked.
