He preferred art that looked like the thing it was supposed to be.

Her gaze dropped to his mouth and his gut locked. “Addie?”

“Sorry.” She cleared her throat.

“Let’s sort out the security system and get to lunch,” he said.

“For our date.”

He took her hand. It was so small and feminine in his. “Yeah, our date.”

He used the code to unlock the security system and enter the warehouse.

“This place is only open to the public a few days a week.” He frowned at the security panel and noted the blinking light. There was a problem with the pressure sensor in the main room. He saw someone had been in earlier and had armed the system when they’d left. Farley must’ve come to check it.

Bram and Addie’s footsteps echoed in the cavernous building.

“Wow.” She glanced around, taking in the pieces of art dotted around the space.

Most of them were wild and colorful paintings, or sculptures that looked like twisted, tortured beings.

“You did the security system for the entire place?” she asked.

“Yes. The art’s worth a lot of money. And Farley is a little eccentric. He only wanted me to oversee things, since I was Irish.” Bram strode toward the platform in the center. A sculpture that looked like a large poodle made of bottle caps rested on it.

He frowned. It looked like junk to him, but what the hell did he know?

He circled the platform, then stepped up on it.

That’s when he heard a distinctive click. It sent a shiver down his spine. It was a click he’d heard before, in war zones. He froze.

Addie took a step closer. “Bram?”

“Don’t come any closer.” His heart raced. He needed to get her out of here, but he needed her safe.

Carefully, he took out his cellphone, unlocked it, and tossed it toward her. It hit the floor near her feet.

“Addie, take my phone, then get back to the lobby. Call Killian.”

“Bram, you’re scaring me.”

A thought hit him. “Don’t leave the building.” This could be a ploy by her stalker to snatch her.

She picked up the phone. “What’s going on?”

“Just go.”

She straightened. “No. I might not be some badass security person, but tell me what’s going on so I can help.”

Her tone was firm. She wasn’t going to let it go.

“I think I just stepped on a bomb.”

After gettingoff the phone with Killian, Addie stared at Bram, her belly churning and her pulse racing.

“Addie, get to the lobby,” he ordered.
