CHAPTERSEVEN

It wasn’t until he walked Addie into the Sentinel Security office that Bram breathed a sigh of relief.

She was safe.

Standing there, knowing a bomb was under him… He’d been sweating, terrified. For Addie.

He didn’t care about himself, but he needed to be there for her, and the baby. He pressed his lips together. Who the hell had done this? Had Bram been the target, or was it just some sort of twisted plot to get to Addie?

Who the hell was her stalker, and how far was this asshole willing to go to get her?

“Sit.” He found a chair and nudged her into it.

She pulled a face. “You can ask me, Bram. You don’t need to manhandle me around.”

He scowled. “You know I’m not much of a talker.”

She laughed. God, he loved that sound.

“Yes, I’m well aware.” Worry twisted her pretty face. “You should sit. You were the one who was standing on a bomb.” Her cheeks paled again.

He grabbed her hand. “I’m fine.” The others entered the office. “And I have work to do. I need to find out who did this.”

“Agreed,” Killian said, as he strode in ahead of the others.

“Addie, I got you lunch.” Devyn smiled, holding up a brown bag. “A fajita wrap from this place around the corner that Hex raves about. It’s got chicken and lots of veggies. All good for you and the baby.”

“Oh.” Addie looked surprised. “Thank you, Devyn.”

“Well, you guys missed your lunch date, and you need to eat.” Devyn nudged Bram. “Plus, you’re my bestie’s girl, so that makes us besties, too.”

Addie shot a startled look at Bram. Killian’s phone rang, interrupting the moment. He walked away to answer it.

“Devyn only has one speed,” Bram said. “But she’s good people.”

The redhead smiled. “I’ll grow on you.”

“Like a parasite,” Bram added.

Devyn laughed and elbowed him. “Look at you, making a joke.”

Killian ended his call, his hawkish face serious. “That was Matteo. He questioned Farley.”

Bram flexed a hand. He liked the Irishman, even if he was a bit different. If the guy had set him up…

“Matteo said he was genuinely upset and horrified. He thought it was just a sensor malfunction and called it in. That was it.”

“Someone had been in before the sensor problem started,” Bram said. “Someone who deactivated the system, planted the bomb, then re-activated the system. They knew that if the sensor malfunctioned, then Farley would call me.”

“Bram was the target,” Addie whispered.

“It could’ve been to give this fucker easier access to Addie,” Bram said. “Take me out, and leave Addie vulnerable.”

“So this person deactivated our security system.” Hex folded her arms and looked like a pissed-off fairy. “No way.”

“Maybe he got someone’s code?” Killian suggested. “A gallery employee.”

A phone rang on the desk, and Hex snatched it up. “Hello? Okay. Yes, bring it down.” She looked up. “A letter’s been delivered to Bram by courier. The receptionist upstairs said we need to see it.”
