Thankfully, Killian Hawke had come for his sister. At that estate, other trafficked women had been forced to be the playthings of powerful men. Addie swallowed. It’d almost happened to her.

“Hey, sunshine.” Bram knelt in front of her. “You’re safe.”

She grabbed his hand. “I know.” She took a deep breath. “So, this man is Russian? Could Yaroslav Mikhailov be after me again?”

“Mikhailov is gone,” Killian said. “He’ll never cause you problems again.”

“He was handed over to the CIA.” Bram’s face lightened. “I believe it was Devyn who took him off Killian’s hands.”

Killian frowned. “I would’ve preferred him dead.”

Bram looked back at the screen. “We don’t know who this guy is yet, but we’re closing in.”

“And you helped, Addie.” Hex pointed at the screen. “You found this image. We don’t have a full face, but I’ll still try and run him through facial recognition.”

Addie’s stomach grumbled, and with a hiss, she pressed a hand to her belly.

Bram froze. “What’s wrong?”

She smiled. “Nothing. I’m just hungry again. I have an insane craving for cookie dough ice cream.” She cleared her throat. “And salt-and-vinegar chips.”

“I love both those things,” Hex said.

“Um, but I actually want them together. The chips in the ice cream.”

Hex shuddered. “Ew. Pregnancy cravings are weird.”

“Why don’t we head up to my place,” Bram said. “You can rest and I’ll organize dinner.”

She smiled at him. “Okay.”

Hex looked at him askance. “You’re going to cook?”

Bram grunted. “Hell, no. I’m going to order delivery.” He glanced at Addie. “I can’t cook.”

“That’s all right.” She held onto his hand as she rose. “I can.”

He gave her a faint smile. “I always enjoyed your baking.”

God, a smile. A real smile. She wanted to see him do that more often.

“You’re not cooking tonight.” He slid an arm around her. “You’re resting.”

She loved his overprotective grumpiness. Too many times in her life, she’d felt on her own, and even unsafe. She’d done everything she could to be independent and look after herself, but a part of her loved knowing that this big, strong man was looking out for her.

Even if he was only doing it for the baby.

“If I find anything else, I’ll let you know,” Hex said.

CHAPTEREIGHT

Bram shifted on the couch, scrunching the pillow under his head to get more comfortable.

It was late. Addie had gone to bed hours ago, after he’d fed her Italian. He’d gotten a lot of satisfaction watching her enjoy the food. A few times, he’d gotten hard too, listening to her moaning, and savoring it.

Just thinking of her now, asleep in his bed…

He readjusted his pajama pants and grunted. She’d been so afraid earlier, when he’d been on that bomb.
