Then the doctor tensed and leaned forward.

“What’s wrong?” he demanded.

“Hang on.” The doctor was frowning.

Addie bit her lip and he smoothed a hand up her arm.

“Is something wrong with the baby?” Addie’s voice trembled.

The doctor smiled. “No. It’s just something that got missed previously, because we thought you were measuring ahead based on the father’s size. Baby A is perfectly healthy.”

“Baby A?” Bram frowned, and saw another bubble appear on the screen.

Addie gasped.

“Congratulations. You’re having twins.”

“Two?” Bram just stared dumbly at the screen. “There are two?”

“Oh my gosh.” Addie’s fingers tightened, her face pale. “How could we not know?”

“It happens sometimes,” Dr. Choudhury said. “The second baby is missed in the early scan.” The doctor’s smile was wide. “You’re having a boyanda girl.”

Addie made a choked sound.

This time, Bram needed to comfort her. He pressed a kiss to her for head. “Together, remember?” He had no idea how. He wasn’t sure how to be a father to one baby, let alone two. “You’re not alone.”

She smiled, but it was a little shaky.

He couldn’t stop from touching his lips to hers.

“Together,” she whispered.

There were balls of knots in his gut. He couldn’t fail her, but he had a history of letting the women in his life down.

His phone vibrated. As the doctor talked some more with Addie, he checked it. There was a message from Nick.

Time to move. Hex spotted an SUV out front. Could be nothing, but don’t want to take any risks.

No, he wouldn’t take risks with Addie. Or the babies.

Babies.

Jeez. He’d have to wrap his head around it later. For now, he’d get her safe.

CHAPTERTEN

How the hell was she going to seduce the father of her baby? Um, babies.

It still hadn’t quite sunk in that she was pregnant with twins. A little boy and a little girl.

Addie chewed on the end of her pen, staring at the computer screen.

Bram was taking care of her and keeping her safe. But something was still holding him back. She was sure it had something to do with losing his mother and sister.

That he blamed himself.

“Earth to Addie?”
