He tried to rise, but another bullet hit the side mirror of his truck and it exploded.

Fuck.

Devyn’s gaze narrowed. “I’ll crawl under the truck and—”

More gunfire. It was coming from the opposite direction.

“Two shooters.” She cursed.

Dammit, they were pinned down. If they moved, they’d be taken out.

“We need a plan.” She scanned the buildings around them.

More bullets hit, and this time, Bram saw a muzzle flash in a building nearby. “Brick building across the street. Third floor.”

“I see him. Damn, if only I had a sniper rifle.”

“If we cause a diversion, you can get into that building and take him out.”

She shook her head. “Bram, we’re pinned down.”

The next volley had them dropping lower.

“The second shooter’s moving closer,” she said. “Where the hell did he go?”

Bram scanned the growing darkness. He lifted his Glock and waited.

Movement. A shadow.

A man rose from behind a car, his gun aimed at them.Oh, fuck.

A shot rang out, and the shooter jerked and dropped.

What the hell?

Another man stalked down the center of the street, rifle held at his side.

Bram frowned.

Then the newcomer paused, lifted his rifle, and fired.

There was a short scream. Bram turned his head, just in time to see the shooter in the window tumble out and fall to the ground.

Devyn rose and dusted herself off. “Perfect timing as always, Shade.”

Shade?Bram had only ever heard stories about the deep-cover CIA agent.

The man strode closer, swinging the rifle onto his broad shoulder.

He was tall, with wide shoulders, long legs, and dirty-blond hair that was currently pulled up in a small bun.

“I always like to save the day, Hellfire.” His smile was wide and easy.

“So, you’re Shade.” Bram held out a hand.

The man smiled and shook. “You must be Excalibur.”

“Bram O’Donovan.”
