“I know. But I left my hometown, determined to make it as a dancer.” Addie’s gaze turned inward. “I’ve been focused on that, struggled for it, for so long.”
“You have to do what makes you happy, and not worry about what other people think.”
“I don’t want to go back on the stage, but I don’t want to give up dancing completely.”
“There are other ways to keep dance in your life. Look at me.”
“Well, I think I’m going to be pretty busy for the foreseeable future,” Addie said.
“You think?” Saskia laughed.
“But I’m going to think about what I want to do.” She felt like a balloon was filling in her chest. The future yawned ahead, filled with opportunity. It felt good.
All except the fact that Kozlov was out there, wanting to steal her future from her.
But you aren’t alone, Addie. It’s going to be all right.
“Okay, take care of yourself, Addie,”Saskia said. “I’m going to plan a trip over to give you a baby shower.”
“Oh, that sounds amazing.” Addie’s chest warmed.
“We’ll talk soon. Stay close to Bram.”
Addie laughed. “I am.”
“Mmm, I’m sure all that gruff dedication pays off when it’s focused on you.”
She blushed. “Saskia…”
“Take care.”
Addie slipped her phone into her pocket, but the warm glow faded. Ilya Kozlov was still out there. Hunting her.
“Hex, any updates?”
The tech guru lifted her head and blinked. “Nothing yet. No sign of the fucker.”
“Are Bram and the others okay?”
“Yes. Bram was extra scowly earlier, but then I swear I saw him smile.”
Addie hid her own smile.
“He wants you and the babies safe,” Hex said.
“I want that, too.”
“So, I see stubble burn on your neck, and a dreamy look in your eyes. You successfully seduced your grumpy baby daddy.”
Addie couldn’t stop a grin. “Maybe.”
Hex rolled her eyes and smiled. “I’m happy for you.”
“I’m in love with him.”
“Ah, if you thought that was a secret, I hate to tell you, but you were doing a bad job of hiding it.”
Addie nibbled her lip. “He hasn’t said it. I have no idea how he truly feels.”
