The image of Bram cradling a baby made her smile.

Ric was outside checking something on the plane. Maybe some fresh air would help her?

She carefully descended the stairs. “Ric?”

She didn’t see him. She scanned the area around the landing strip, hoping to see the SUVs coming back. She wanted Bram’s arms around her.

At the bottom of the stairs, she glanced toward the back of the jet. Her heart clenched. A body was lying on the ground, legs sticking out on the other side of the jet. Those were Ric’s boots.

Her chest twisted.Oh no. Had he fallen?

“Ric!”

She’d taken one step when someone grabbed her in a firm grip from behind. She was whirled around.

She looked up into a hard face.

Kozlov. Her stomach turned over.No.

“What did you do to Ric?” She hated that her voice trembled.

“Ric can’t help you.” Her stalker smiled. “Hello, Adaline.”

“Leave. Me. Alone.” She tried to jerk away from him, and at the same time, she slipped her phone from her pocket. She knew he’d take it away from her if he saw it.

He pulled her closer, and she smelled sweat and cinnamon from the gum he chewed. The combination nearly made her gag.

“I can’t leave you, because you’re mine,” he said, his accent thick.

“I’mnot.” She tried to yank away, and pressed the screen of her phone. Then she dropped it in the grass.

He dragged her closer, hands rough, and she cried out.

“You’re going to be my wife. I have a home all ready for us. It’s waiting for you.”

Horror spread through her. He was truly sick, living in some deluded fantasy. “I’ll never marry you. I don’t love you. I love somebody else.”

“You’ll forget him.” Kozlov dragged her toward the trees. “Soon, you’ll love only me.”

Bram!Mentally, she cried out for him.

He’d come for her. No matter what. She knew her man would never give up.

She had to be strong and wait.

CHAPTERFIFTEEN

Before the SUV had even stopped beside the jet, Bram shoved the door open.

As his feet skidded in the dirt, he paused, listening. Nothing but silence all around.

“Addie!” he roared.

No response.

“Shit, Ric.” Devyn raced toward the fallen pilot. The man lay on the ground outside.

Bram jogged to the stairs.
