“We’re circling around from the other side.” Nick’s voice came over their earpieces.
Atlas took off running ahead of them, moving fast. Boone sprinted right behind his dog.
An explosion cut through the air.
Bram stumbled.Addie. He could barely breathe.
“Hex?” His voice cracked.
“I see her! She’s all right.” Then the hacker cursed. “Kozlov is closing in on her.”
Bram picked up speed.
“Stop!” Killian yelled.
Bram skidded to a stop. It was then he saw light glinting off a wire at neck height, strung between the trees.Fuck. It would have decapitated him.
He ducked under it.
“Bram, slow down,” Killian said. “You’ll be no good to her dead.”
“If Kozlov catches her…”
“We aren’t going to let that happen.”
Bram kept moving, now at a slightly slower pace. But it nearly killed him.
Gunshots rang out. He dropped and heard bulletsthunkinto the tree trunks beside him. Devyn ducked behind a tree, her gun aimed at the other side of the clearing. Killian whirled behind a tree.
Where the hell was the shooter?Bram raised his head. It had to be the other guard.
More bullets. They hit the dirt near Bram’s head, and he rolled.
There was a deep bark. Atlas sprinted across the clearing and leaped.
A second later, Bram heard a man curse, then start yelling.
Boone raced after his dog. Bram rose, and caught sight of a guard rolling in the dirt, trying to avoid Atlas. The dog was latched onto his arm, growling.
Boone kicked the guard, then leaned down and punched him in the face. The former soldier’s features were set in blank lines. A warrior doing his job.
“I’ve got this,” Boone said. “Go.”
Bram glanced over at Devyn and Killian, then the three of them took off.
Bram weaved through the trees. “Hex, where is she?”
“She veered northeast. Kozlov is still after her. The guy is good, he’s getting close.”
“Wolf and the others?”
“We’re coming,” Nick replied.
“They’re a little farther away than you,” Hex said. “I’m moving in closer to see if I can detect any more booby traps.”
Bram wanted to run faster, but he gritted his teeth and made himself check for traps. Killian and Devyn kept pace with him.
His team had his back.
