Alexander gave me a cheeky smirk in response.

Sometimes, it amazed me how open Alexander could be when comfortable with someone. If I had been told in the past that Alexander was a man of feelings, I would have laughed myself off the earth. Alexander, who had only given me emotionless expressions and soulless smirks in the past, was now joking openly with me. It was wonderful to see so many rich expressions on his sculpted face. I didn’t think I could ever get tired of seeing different emotions.

“Relax, everything will be fine.” Alexander comforted me.

I sighed.

“You don’t know that. My dad can demand I go back home with him.”

“And you know I will never allow that,” Alexander replied casually, but the edge in his tone showed he was serious.

“He’s my father,” I stated blankly. “What are you going to do? Kill him?”

Even though I knew Alexander would never kill my father, my stomach dipped in uncertainty. Wouldn’t he…right?

“Of course not.” Alexander looked taken aback at my words, and I had to admit that I was not very careful to have insinuated that he could do something like that. “I may not be an upright citizen, Aryana, but I have morals.”

“I’m sorry. Of course, you wouldn’t do anything like that.” I quickly walked over to Alexander and plopped down on his lap. I straddled his legs, facing him, and wrapped my arms around his neck. “I’m just worried about my father’s reaction. I shouldn’t have said that.”

I bent my head and pecked his lips in a quick apology. I was forgiven when he pulled me closer and connected our lips for longer. Our lips slid across each other slowly; nothing was lustful or heated. It was nice.

“You shouldn’t have said that, but because you’re mybel tesoro, I’ll forgive you.” He smiled and kissed me again before separating his lips from mine.

My face was slightly flushed pink at his words. By now, I had understood a little Italian though I supposed it couldn’t count when I only understood the language when it concerned me. He always ensured I knew whatever he called me, such as his beautiful treasure, which made me feel like I was soaring.

I placed my head on his shoulder, and he gently stroked my back soothingly.

“It will be fine.” He placated me.

I hoped it would be all right. As much as I missed my dad and wanted to see him, I didn’t want there to be any problems. I wanted my dad and Alexander to get along with each other, and I also wanted my dad not to ask many questions.

How would my father even react to the age gap between us? I cringed and closed my eyes. Alexander was thirty-five years old. He was ten years older than me. Hopefully, my father wouldn’t think I was being manipulated or something like that.

“I hope your father likes Italian food,” Alexander commented.

“Is it only Italian food you know how to cook?” I questioned.

“No, but it is what I am best at and what I’m going to cook if I want to impress your father.”

I immediately lifted my head from his shoulder and stared at Alexander. His eyes had no mirth, and I realized he was serious.

“You’re serious?” I blurted out in surprise.

Alexander looked confused. “Why wouldn’t I be serious? Do you not want me to get along with your father?”

Alexander continued to surprise me, making it even funnier that he didn’t even realize. I needed to separate my idea of Alexander as an heir to a crime syndicate from the Alexander I was currently straddling. The thought of Alexander sticking around didn’t cross my mind. I had thought Alexander would only show his face to my father out of courtesy and disappear into his room, leaving my father alone. His willingness to risk our location to make me happy made my heart flutter. Now hearing him wanting to cook a fancy Italian lunch for my father, I didn’t know what to say.

“You’re going to stay with us?” I croaked out, still stunned.

Alexander frowned and leaned back to look at me. “Of course. Where else would I go?”

“Oh,” I said in a dumb manner. “I thought you wouldn’t want to stay around.”

“Have you forgotten what my father said?” Alexander pulled me closer to him. “We value family above all things. Of course, I’ll stay. Besides, it takes two to make a baby. I can’t leave you to take the heat alone.”

Overwhelmed with emotions I didn’t want to name, I snuggled back into his arms and buried my face into the crook of his neck. I didn’t know what to do with this man.

“Is there anything I’ll need to be on the lookout for?” Alexander asked.
