He was on her in a blink, curling his fingers around her upper arms. “What’s the matter, Lena?”

She stared up at him, lips parted on the puff of air that escaped. He searched the depths of her eyes for only a blink before she twisted out of his grasp.

She stepped away from him. “Nothing’s the matter. I thought you said there would be dinner.”

“I didn’t order yet. I wanted to make sure you were coming first.”

She chuckled at that, a soft sound that worked into his system and had his jeans pulling tighter over his cock.

He waved at the small sofa in the seating area. “Make yourself comfortable. I’ll put on the movie.”

“Oh, great. Should I be worried? You have terrible taste in movies, Slade.”

He grabbed her hand and led her to the sofa, forcing her to sit down. Then he grabbed the remote and with a few clicks had the movie rolling.

Suddenly, he remembered he’d forgotten to contact Gia for more advice on what food to order that wouldn’t make Lena sick.

“I forgot something. Be right back.” He took a couple steps toward the bathroom and turned around to pierce her in his gaze. “Don’t leave.”

“Fine. But make it quick. I’m starved.”

He walked into the bathroom and shot off a text to Gia. While he waited for a reply, he spotted his cologne sitting on the vanity and remembered that he hadn’t used it today. He needed every weapon in his arsenal when it came to wooing the woman he loved.

He spritzed the cologne lightly on his chest and turned his attention back to the text. Thankfully, Gia popped up with a response.

Stay away from anything heavy.

So tacos are out,he responded.

Spicy could make her sick too.

After a few minutes of going back and forth, he had a menu plan in his mind and placed an online order for delivery. In the other room, he could hear the movie playing.

Damn, he was missing quality time that Lena could be leaning against his side, his arm around her.

When he walked out, he glanced at the sofa and didn’t see her sitting there.

Panicked, he swept the hotel room. She wasn’t on the bed waiting for him either.

Quickly, he circled the sofa and found her lying down, her head on a throw pillow and her eyes closed.

The sight tugged a cord in his heart. She was so lovely. Her face was imprinted on his damn heart.

His gaze traveled to her chest, which rose and fell in the slow rhythm of sleep.

Quietly, he moved to the closet and grabbed an extra blanket from the top shelf. He carried it back and spread it over Lena. When he leaned over her, he let his hand rest on her shoulder.

Not tense like she was on the plane. His woman was really fast asleep.

She must be sleeping poorly, or maybe the pregnancy was taking a big toll on her stamina. Probably both.

And both were his fault.

He grinned.

Taking a seat on the floor next to the sofa, he contemplated their situation again. He couldn’t guess what her stance about the baby was, but he wanted it and her. He wanted them to be a family.

With Lena, he never knew what to expect. She could swing either way on the matter.
