“Really?You’recooking?”

“Yep.”

“Tonight?”

“Uh-huh.” He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. “I told her that we need to speak with Sparrow.”

Lena went still. He held his breath, waiting for her to launch off him, throw on her clothes and make a run for the door.

“You’re right,” she said quietly. “It’s time I face what’s to come.”

“Whatever it is, I support you, MJ.” He cupped her jaw and drew her gaze to his. “Even if it means I’m the one changing diapers while you rappel into a foreign embassy.”

The light of love in her eyes damn near brought tears to his. “We’re going to be damn good parents, Parker.”

His grin stretched. “We are.” When he lightly smacked her tight ass, she moaned. “I’d better clean up if I’m supposed to be cooking for Alpha.”

“What’s on the menu?” She eyed him.

“Not sure. Tacos?”

Any semblance of humor fell from her face. Then she hurled herself off the bed and sprinted for the bathroom.

With a private smile, Slade followed…to hold her hair.

Lena’s nerves were frayed and her sensitive stomach was behaving even worse than normal. But here she stood in front of her commanding officer, prepared to break the hardest news she could imagine.

“Sit down, Graham.” Sparrow sank to his own seat behind his desk.

Lena took the chair and held herself still and upright, aware that he’d pick up on any nervous body language she displayed. She drew in a deep breath.

“You’re doing okay after your ordeal?” he asked.

She nodded. “Been through much worse.”

“Of course.”

After she and Slade incapacitated Trey, the FBI carted him off for questioning. Blackout rarely heard what happened to those people they stopped, but it didn’t make any difference to their lives. They lived for the fight, and once that was over, it became somebody else’s problem.

She steadied herself. She had to do this.

“You might have heard the rumors…”

“You and Overstreet?”

Relief flooded her that he already knew at least a portion of what she was about to tell him. She nodded. “It’s true. We were married.”

He sat back in his chair, that furrow between his brows that appeared when he was worried deepening. “If he’s done something to you, Lena, I’ll handle him.”

Her brows shot up at the brotherly show of protection. “What would he have done? Hurt my feelings?”

Sparrow let out a low chuckle. “I guess you’re right. But if I need to, I’ll take the matter up with Con.”

“No, it’s nothing like that,” she said at once. “Things have…rekindled between Slade and me.”

“If you were going to ask if you can both still fight on your respective Blackout teams, the answer’s yes. We operate separately for the most part. Except Bosnia.”
