“Do you have any idea what time it is in Belize?” Lucy sounded wide awake. And she should be. It was the middle of the afternoon.

“It’s two sixteen there. You’re only two hours ahead of me.”

“Are you having lunch?” Lucy asked.

“Actually, yes.” Summer bit into a strawberry. She was out on the patio off her room, enjoying the fountain and flowers while Cody gave Alex a swimming lesson in the pool.

She bet Natalie had already found her way out there, too.

“Are you at my place?”

“Yes.” Lucy sighed dramatically. “I needed an escape from grumpy interior decorators who know nothing about French contemporary design and show me nothing but abstract art,” Lucy grumbled. “Your New York hotel will be chic, sophisticated, and lovely if I have to scream my lungs out to get it.”

She hated that Lucy was upset. “Why not just hire another decorator? Or do it yourself? You know what you like and what will work.” She trusted Lucy implicitly.

“Of course I do. I just want the person who promised me one thing to deliver it, instead of thinking they know better than me. Isn’t the customer always right?”

“Absolutely. Especially when we’re paying a fortune for thisrenovation. If it’s ready in time, maybe I’ll take Natalie and Haley to New York before Christmas to shop for the holidays.”

“I bet they’d love that. How was the benefit last night?”

“Wonderful. I danced with my dad, met a bunch of Cody’s friends, and I even ran into Miles.”

“Small world. That’s lovely. I bet being with your dad really made your night.”

“It did. And then Cody really made my night.”

“Do tell. And don’t forget the details.”

Summer grinned. “We snuck away for an intimate night alone. He got us this amazing hotel room with a fireplace.” Summer got lost in the memory of their first night together.

“And?”

“It was everything I didn’t know it could be.”

“When it’s the right person, it’s magic.”

“I want the New York hotel rooms to feel romantic.” Maybe she’d take Cody to the cute little boutique hotel instead of her sisters.

“I’m trying.”

“I know you are.”

“So you and Cody, it’s the real deal now.”

“We still have some things to work out. But I have a plan.”

“Of course you do. And how are you going to blend your two lives?”

Summer thought of the conversations she’d had with her dad this past week. “I’m going to make us partners.” She laid out her surprise for Cody to Lucy.

“That’s amazing. Do you think he’ll go for it?”

“It’s something he’s wanted for a long time.” She hoped he didn’t mind that she’d made it happen without his input. “My dad wants us both to be happy. He thinks Cody will be thrilled.”

“You sound really happy about your dad.”

“We’re getting so close.”
