Natalie frowned and headed for the front door.

Haley watched her sister go ahead of them.

Summer tried to enlist her little sister’s help. “What’s it going to take to get her to talk to me?”

“Bribes.” Haley’s honesty made Summer laugh.

“I see. Well, what should I start with?” Summer wasn’t averse to trying to sweeten up her sister with a nice gesture, but if it didn’t open the door to them actually getting to know each other... Well, she didn’t want to appear to be buying her sister’s affection. That would only sour Natalie toward her even more.

“She loves the downtown shops. Mom thinks they’re overpriced. But Natalie loves to be seen there.”

Summer hooked her arm over Haley’s shoulder. “I see a shopping trip in our future.”

“You mean you’ll take me, too?”

“Of course. We’ll make it a girls’ day this weekend. Once I get a car.”

Haley gave her a big grin. “Awesome.”

“So, what did you want to do today?”

Summer had a mini panic attack at Haley’s answer before she thought,Why not?

Chapter Seventeen

Haley couldn’t believe her big sis wanted to hang out with her for so long. Or that she got Summer to do the TikTok challenge all her friends were doing. And then Summer came up with an even better one and did that with her, too.

After the last crazy dance-off, they fell to their butts on the floor, laughing and trying to catch their breath.

Summer was such a good dancer. “You learned those steps really quickly.”

“I used to do ballet. But it’s been a long time. And I’m old.”

“Not that old.”

“I have eleven years on you. I’m dying. You’re barely out of breath.”

Haley wanted to ask her sister something, but held back.

Summer leaned in close. “What’s on your mind? Please don’t tell me there’s another routine you want to do. That last one was like bouncing on a trampoline with all those hopping and jumping moves.”

Haley shook her head. “It’s not that.”

“What is it? You can ask me anything.”

Haley didn’t want to hurt her sister’s feelings. “It’s strange to have you here. I mean, you’re my sister, but we didn’t grow up together.”

“It’s strange for me, too. We are sisters. Our DNA tells us that, right?”

“Yeah.”

“But being friends is something else. I’d really like to be your friend as well as your sister.”

Haley scrunched her lips. “I think we already are.”

“Me too,” Summer agreed.

Excitement exploded through Haley. “I hope you stay.”
