“I guess we could.”

“Great! So, how about we go and get these gifts all wrapped up and then we can go out, find a tree and decorate it.” Harry’s stupid grin was softening my otherwise tense body.

“I don’t have any ornaments.”

“I have plenty. I can share,” he says, holding his shopping cart.

God, he’s always so nice and caring. Not to mention charming and smart. And hot to boot. Why is he still single?

“Alright,” I agree and Harry beams.

“Great! We’ll go now. We should be able to make it before they close. Should we go to your place or mine?”

I’ve never had anyone come into my apartment. But the thought of Harry coming inside doesn’t freak me out as much as the idea of other people.

“We can go to my place. Wrap them there and I can give them out on Monday,” I suggested.

“Okay, awesome. We’ll go now,” Harry started moving again.

“What about you?”

“Oh, I bought my gifts weeks ago. As it gets closer to the holidays nothing I’m looking for is ever there. So, I make a point of getting everything done early.”

I smile at his forward thinking and follow him out of the store after paying.

When he gets into the car, Harry hands me a couple of colourful bills with five cents marks on them.

“What’s this?”

“Canadian Tire money.”

“They are all five cent bills, though.”

“Yeah, cool, huh? They give them to you as part of your change. It’s like company branded currency.”

I roll my eyes and ask, “Why are you giving them to me?”

“In case you ever want to go back and get something.” Harry smiles and I smile back.

Chapter 5: Harry

WegettoAyaka’sapartment, and I still feel the warmth from her hand on my knee. I can also remember the look in her eyes when she realised what she’d done. I know she felt that spark between us. Even if she won’t admit it.

I place the gifts onto her dining table and go for the rest. On my way down to the parking garage, I think about my next move. Realistically, I shouldn’t do anything. Regardless of how she feels about me, she’s still my boss.

But I don’t think I can let this go. I saw the look in her eyes. I saw them heat up when she looked down at her hand on my knee.

I lift the collar of my coat as I trek back into the frozen evening. Despite being in a garage, the air is still cold as fuck. I can feel the wind pierce through my thick coat as I pick up the last of the presents and head back to the apartment.

I think about what to say to her.

I could try being blunt.

“Why did you touch my knee? I saw that look in your eyes. You wanna talk about it?”

Or I could try subtle.

“How are you feeling today?”
