“Yeah. Well done, Canada,” she says and pours maple syrup over her eggs and pancakes.

We eat our meal and talk about what we want to do today. Ayaka makes the bulk of the schedule which starts with presents. Then she’s going to call her parents and then she wants to have sex. Which I’m all for.

“I don’t always call my parents on Christmas, but I thought since I’m going to their place for New Year, I’d ask if I can bring you. If you want to go, of course,” she suggested.

“I’d love to.”

I love how comfortable Ayaka has gotten with us being together. I would have thought that she’d want to keep it under wraps for a while, but now I’m meeting her parents.

“Present time,” I say as we finish our meal.

“Yup.” Ayaka slips into the living room as I take away the dishes. I do a quick cleanup and walk into the living room.

We both sit on the floor and start opening her presents. There aren’t many but every one is meaningful.

I open a small box Ayaka gave to me and inside is a silver bracelet with the sentence “I Couldn't Do It Without You” engraved on it.

“This is amazing. When did you get this done?”

“It was a while ago. You’ve always meant something to me, Harry. Even when I didn’t know it, there was a part of me that cared deeply for you. This was true then, and it’s true now.”

I reach over and give her a hug and kiss, then she places the bracelet on me. The cool metal hits my skin and makes me shiver. Not only because it’s cool but because of its meaning.

“I got you this,” I pull out a small-ish present.

“What is it?” she asks, and rips open the present, holding up the book I got for her.

“This is the book I was looking for at that store,” she says. She looks up, and her eyes are coated with tears.

“Oh, Harry. That’s…”

Ayaka stops and covers her mouth with her hand.

“Thank you. I love it so much,” she says, her voice quivering.

She lets her tears fall, and I rush over to hold her close.

“I didn’t mean to make you cry,” I say, trying to comfort her.

“It’s okay. They’re happy tears, Harry. I just… really appreciate it.”

I kiss her on top of her head and hold her close.

“I guess, I just feel guilty,” she admits.

“About what?”

“Well, you’ve been so nice to me. Always. And I’m just a bitch,”

“Bitch is a little harsh, isn’t it?” I ask.

“Oh yeah, what word do you think is better?” she quips.

“Um, well. Cold, grumpy, uptight—”

Ayaka slaps me on the chest and chuckles. “Okay, okay. I won’t call myself a bitch anymore. Knock it off.”

I chuckle and move her so she’s facing me.
