"No, silly," she says, laughing. "I do this for a living; always the wedding planner, never the bride, you know?"

I laugh awkwardly, trying not to sound too relieved. "Right...duh. How can I help?"

"Can I bounce some ideas off you while we work?" she asks.

I grin. "Of course."

As we arrange the centerpieces, Sarah starts to chat about her latest client, a bride who wants a winter wonderland theme. I listen intently, admiring how passionate she is about her job. There's something magnetic about her, something that draws me in even closer.

The more we talk, the more I find myself flirting with her. It's like I'm powerless against her beauty and charm. I can't help but imagine running my fingers through her hair, kissing those plump lips, and feeling her body pressed against mine.

But I know it's just a fantasy. She's too beautiful, too perfect for someone like me. I'm just a simple, blue-collar guy from Louisiana, and she's a sophisticated city girl who knows her way around wedding planning.

Plus...I can't be held down.

Girls don't tend to like what I do for a living.

As we put the final touches on the decorations, Sarah turns to me with a grateful smile. "Thank you so much, Jake. You've been a huge help."

I grin, feeling a flutter of pride in my chest. "No problem, Miss Sarah. And please--if you ever need a pair of hands for anything else, you feel free to give me a holler."

She blushes bright red, and I wonder if she's thinking what I'm thinking--that there's more than one thing I'd like to do with my hands where she's involved.

"Well...I've got to run to the bakery and pick some things up before the festivities start," she says. "And of course--I've got to change."

"You're not wearing that?" I ask.

"No," she says, a curl falling into her face as she ducks her head. "I'm in the wedding party; gotta wear what the bride tells me."

"So you're all dialed in with these Harts, huh?"

"I sure am," she says.

"Well...I'm sure you'll look beautiful," I tell her. "I'll see you tonight."

Chapter two

Sarah

Iamnotfalling for a Hart.

It seems like, ever since that family came to town, they've been winning hearts (no pun intended) and knocking women up. I never realized my best friend Reagan even wanted kids, and now she's considering a second baby and blissfully in love with her husband, Caleb Hart.

And here comes Jake Hart, with his big muscles and his helpful hands...

...nope. No no no. Not going there.

Sure, I love weddings. I love planning them, I loveworkingat them, I love attending.

But I have never wanted to get married.

I'm too busy with my career as a successful wedding planner to even think about finding a man. Plus, I've seen too many marriages fail--including my parents' when I was a kid--and the aftermath is always messy. I'd rather focus on my work and live a carefree life.

That doesn't stop my heart from racing as I change into my bridesmaid's dress, a dark purple velvet number that hugs my waist. I look like an old hollywood starlet in this thing--and I can't help but be grateful to Reagan for looping me in on this plan. The bride of today's wedding, Piper, barely knows anyone in town, and Reagan rallied the troops to help her out.

This family...they're amazing.

Which is why I know Jake will probably meet some pretty, slender young thing and put a ring on her finger in no time.
