“Oh, it’s this thing the Fathers do for good PR,” Lily explained, nonchalantly spearing a piece of fruit on her fork. “They invite parents over to show off the institute and yap about how they’re rehabilitating us. Only a few families come, and it’s really not a big deal. It’s very low key.”

Her words conjured up a bittersweet image in my mind. A world where someone showed up just for me. I blinked away the thought, staring at my now tasteless meal.

“It’s okay if, Kat,” Lily said softly, reaching over to give my hand a reassuring squeeze. “No one comes for me, either. My dad wanted nothing to do with me after I accidentally burned down his bakery, and my mom has no spine to stand up for herself.” Her lips pinched to the side, and she gave me a lopsided smile, but I knew better. We had both been abandoned by our families.

“But on the bright side,” she continued. “I heard that Father Logan is giving the presentation tomorrow, so I’m going to watch him. I swear his voice alone makes me wet.”

My mouth dropped open at her confession, coaxing a giggle out of her. “I can’t believe you just said that.”

As if on cue, Father Logan walked into the dining hall, and I was suddenly heating up.

He carried a sense of cockiness about him. The conversations around the room dipped as gazes followed his path. My breath hitched in my chest as I felt his gaze on me like flames. A sinister grin curled his lips, and his eyes filled with an odd kind of victory that burned in my chest.

A surge of emotion welled up inside me…overshadowed by retribution. A strange sense of determination bubbled up. He had managed to flex his authority over me in the library to show me he controlled me, and he was lording it over me even now.

Well, two could play that game.

Staring right back at him, I mimicked his grin.

His brow furrowed slightly, the first sign of uncertainty flickering in his eyes.

It gave me a rush because Father Logan wasn’t going to know what hit him. And boy, was I looking forward to it.

CHAPTERTEN

LOGAN

“Stop staring at her like you’re starving to fuck her,” Bridge hissed in my ear.

I shrugged him off, pushing away, growling under my breath, “Fuck off, man.”

We stood in the doorway that looked out onto the courtyard, where half a dozen girls were meditating with Mason, including Katerina. I’d been a damn mess ever since the library fingering event last night. The intention had been to check up on her because I had zero control, and look how that turned out. I barely slept last night with my cock refusing to go down and her sweet, strawberry slick scent stuck in my nostrils. All I thought about was sinking into her.

So, there I was, tracking her down as soon as I got up, and guilt should swallow me, but it didn’t. The urge to throw her over my shoulder and run with her into the woods to have my way beat in my chest like a caveman.

She was spectacular, gracefully sitting with crossed legs, the sun lighting up her face. Absolutely mesmerizing. She wore high-waisted shorts and a shirt with a round neckline that hugged her breasts. She carried a thriving confidence that drew me to her, and she carried no arrogance or elitism. There was something almost pure about her.

“Sure, whatever you say, but she’s off limits,” Bridge murmured over my shoulder.

I jerked my head toward him. “Why are you saying that shit to me? You think I don’t know that?”

“Then stop eye-fucking her because everyone’s noticing.”

My shoulders punched up as I straightened my back, realizing it wasn’t just two girls from the mediation catching me spying. Even Mason was giving me a death glare. I grunted on the inside at how closely he watched everyone.

“Fuck this.” I spun and marched out of there, needing to do something to get her out of my head. I decided that involved another run in the woods until I passed out.

Heavy footsteps followed me, and I shot a scowl over my shoulder at Bridge strolling after me. He wore a smug expression, his hands in the pockets of his robe.

“You fucked her, didn’t you?” There was venom lining his words but also something else—jealousy.

It was none of his damn business.

“Shut the hell up.” I paused, fury burning through me at how blatantly he spat that out in a spot any of the girls could hear us. “What’s your problem, bruh?”

“As I said, she’s off limits, and you’ve gone and stuck your dick in her.” He had his chin high, in that pissed-off shitty mood he often wore like a mask.

Stiffened with muscles tensing, fury climbed up my spine. “Are you jealous that you didn’t get to her first?”
