As I floated down from the most amazing climax, Mason released me and sat back on his heels. He licked his glistening lips as though he’d just eaten the most delicious ice cream.

Seeing him staring up at me in his robe affected me.

God, what had I done?

“Are you okay?” he asked, collecting my panties and helping me step into them. He pulled them up my legs and in place.

“Yes, but I feel like I’m going to go to hell now for sure. And I’m dragging you in there with me.”

He chuckled, then met my gaze as he leaned in closer to me.

“Trust me, beautiful girl, you won’t be going anywhere near hell. But we should head back before the others come looking for us, or there will be hell to pay.”

“And what about you?” I stared down to the tenting of his robe.

He shook his head. “I got exactly what I’ve been longing for… a taste of you, something I’ll never forget. And I don’t want to rush this until I know you’re ready.”

I wanted to cry. No one had ever said such things to me, made me feel so special that doubts started creeping into my mind at how this couldn’t be real.

Unexpectedly, his hand curled around mine and drew me away from the tree.

“Besides, by the time we get back, he’ll go down.” He glanced down at his erection.

I giggled as he drew me into his arms, warmth consuming me. I wasn’t sure what it was, but his embrace was where I belonged.

“Next time,” he said. “You’re completely mine.”

A buzz ran down my spine and between my thighs with an exhilarating thrill.

He’d said there would be a next time.

CHAPTERFIFTEEN

KAT

The next two days, I was drowning in paranoia.

Father Mason had been distant, and I felt a knot in my stomach every time I crossed paths with him. Was our time in the woods really that inconsequential to him? Or was he just as conflicted as I was? The more I thought about it, the more I was worried I’d made a mistake.

Father Bridge and Logan seemed to be keeping low key too.

And the rumors had gotten worse. Some of the girls had taken to shooting me with a dark glare as they whispered among themselves. Every pointed look, every harsh word, felt like a barbed wire tightening around my chest.

I’d been assigned kitchen duty for the day. Louise was with me, but I had been too preoccupied to even register her presence. My mind was elsewhere—mostly on Father Mason.

Then, out of nowhere, Louise asked, “Kat, have you ever had a boyfriend before?”

I rolled my eyes, the sponge in my hand forgotten. Turning, I met her curious gaze. She was always too nosy for her own good, and I couldn’t help but ponder how the gossip about me started.

“Louise, did you spread the rumors about me going to Father Logan’s bedroom last week?” She didn’t deny it right away, and that was all the answer I needed. “Did you?” I pressed, anger simmering within me.

“I might have... mentioned something,” she finally admitted, her attention falling on the glass tumblers she was polishing.

I wanted to scream at her.

“Why the hell would you do that?” I demanded.

“I... I just thought…”
