His words hit me like a punch to the face. My heart lurched painfully, the room tilting slightly around me. Reluctance danced in his eyes, the hurt that mirrored my own.

I couldn’t believe it.

They wanted me to forget them? Forget everything that had happened? It was as if they wanted to erase themselves from my life, to become nothing more than a distant memory.

But how could I forget them? How could I forget the men who had taken me under their wings, who had made me feel like I belonged somewhere, as though someone actually cared for me? The men who, despite their hardened exteriors, had shown me kindness and compassion? And brought out a devious sexiness I never knew existed inside me.

A scream of frustration lingered in my throat, to fight, to tell them they were wrong. I hated that, deep down, I knew they were right.

“I... I think I need to go to my room,” I stammered, making a move to get up.

Mason was quicker, his hand gently pushing me back down.

“You’re not going anywhere, Kat,” he said firmly. “You passed out. You need to rest under our supervision.”

“But…”

“No buts,” Bridge interrupted. “Just rest. We’ll figure this out.”

Logan’s intense stare said the same, and I sighed, pushing my legs back under the blankets.

“Fine, just for a bit longer, but if you don’t want anyone to get suspicious, I will have to eventually leave this room.”

Mason simply nodded, then got up off the bed, and he and Bridge walked out, shutting the door.

That left Logan and me alone. The quiet of the room was only punctuated by our soft breathing and the muted sounds from outside.

“Since we’re killing time, how did you get involved with your friends?” I asked him as he stood there, hands deep in the pockets of his robe.

Logan’s gaze drifted to the window. “I grew up in the not-so-nice parts of New Orleans. My parents... they couldn’t afford much. I got involved in petty crimes just to survive.”

A pang of sympathy hit me. His life had been difficult from the start.

“During a heist that went sideways a few years ago, I crossed paths with Jonas,” he continued, rubbing his fingers across his stubble jawline. “Ever since then, Jonas has had me in his sights. And when he found out I was close with Bridge... well, that just put a target on my back, too. In all honesty, it doesn’t take much to piss off that dick. Many have lost their lives to him.”

His words left a chill in the air. The danger they were in was all too real.

“I’m scared.”

He strolled over to the bed, sitting right alongside me, twisting to face me.

“I know, Kat, I know.” He slipped his hands around my back and drew me closer, wrapping me in his embrace protectively. “But you’re going to be safe. I promise.”

I pulled back slightly, glancing up. “I’m not concerned about me. It’s you three I’m worried about.”

He ran a hand through his Mohawk, a smile tugging at his lips despite the serious situation. “Always looking out for us, aren’t you?”

Before I knew it, he was leaning toward me, our lips touching. The kiss was intense, powerful, toe-curling, and delicious. I pressed closer, unable to get enough, unable to believe the emotions that pulled me toward them.

When he pulled back, his gaze grew intense, worrying me.

“I need to admit something to you,” he said.

“Yeah, what’s that?”

“I’m smitten by you, Kat. I know it’s the worst possible time, but I made myself a promise.”

“Oh, really?” I practically swooned, batting my eyes at him.
