Mason roared with laughter, nearly choking on his margarita. Bridge, grinning ear to ear, shot me an amused look while Logan, his eyes sparkling with humor, gave my hand a comforting squeeze.

“Shush, Em,” I mock-protested as my cheeks heated up, but I couldn’t suppress my own laughter.

Emma was undeterred.

“It gets better,” she assured. “So, I rush over to give Kat a spare pair of jeans I had in my bag. As soon as I get there, the zipper on my own jeans gives way! We were understaffed, and the event was bursting at the seams with people, so we improvised. She wore her jeans backward with the zipper at the back and put on her long coat to cover her ass from being shown.”

“And I sweated up a storm. It was so hot in there, and I couldn’t take my coat off. Everyone was asking me if I was sick from how much I was perspiring. Worst day of my life.” I giggled. “Oh, don’t worry, I have so many stories reserved for when you bring your boyfriend over,” I teased her.

A round of laughter erupted, filling the room with mirth. Mason was laughing so hard, he had to wipe tears from his eyes. Logan, always one to appreciate a good story, was chuckling loudly. Even Bridge, usually more reserved, was shaking with silent laughter.

Mason started sharing a story about when he slipped in front of his first crush, and the most profound sense of happiness swallowed me.

Here I was, surrounded by people who cherished me. I might not have had a perfect family growing up, and I’d lost so much, but I had found my family. A family who accepted me, flaws and all, and filled my life with joy and love. I never thought I could experience such happiness, but I was glad I found my forever love.
