I chuckled.
“Plus, you didn’t think I’d let you enjoy this little cutie all on your own, did you?” Her eyes went to Wesley. “Hey there, little guy. How are you?”
I removed the bottle just as he smiled and reached for his mom. She collected him into her arms and then took the spot beside me.
“Did Daddy feed you breakfast? Are you happy?”
He gurgled with a big smile on his face.
“What a cutie! Yes, you are!”
Wesley put his hand in his mouth and she reached for the bottle. Our fingers brushed and her eyes met mine.
Her skin flushed and she smiled. My heart clenched. Even after having a baby and barely holding it together through endless sleepless nights, we still craved each other.
I smiled back, then reached over to push a lock of her hair behind her ear. She pressed her face into my palm before focusing on feeding Wesley.
My son. My wife-to-be. The two people I loved most in the whole world.
This wasn't the life I imagined. Not by a long shot.
But I wouldn't change a thing.
