We dug in.

“Oh my God, Liam! You're going too fast. Go back to picking at your food.”

“It's a competition! What am I supposed to do?” I mumbled around a mouthful.

“But your mouth's bigger than mine.”

“How?”

“It is!”

I resumed shoveling chicken into my mouth. “I won't go easy on you.”

“That's it!” She threw herself into it, not looking at me.

Smiling, I sat back and watched her. She could have my plate and five more. Whatever she wanted.

As long as the fire in her eyes kept blazing and her sweet smile remained.

Chapter21

Ava

Darkness surrounded the truck and bled into its interior. I turned sideways to look at Liam, but the shadows hid his face. I couldn't make out his emotions.

Aside from the tires rolling on the highway and the engine's rumbling, everything else was silent.

And I was feeling bold.

I leaned over the center console and dragged a hand up his thigh.

“Thought you were tired.” He side-eyed me.

“Not anymore.” I let my fingers trail upward to his zipper.

Liam hissed a harsh breath. “Ava, you're going to make us crash.”

I gave him one last brush before removing my hand. “No we won't. I’m confident of your driving skills.”

He loosened his grip on the wheel. “Don't tempt fate.”

“Fate would cooperate better than you,” I pouted.

“You’re trouble, Ava.”

I smiled and sent my eyes downward. Just a brush and his shaft was already growing thick. If I tried again, I was certain he would be more willing.

“Don’t you dare.”

It was as if he’d read my mind.

My gaze trailed up to his unbuttoned shirt, his strong masculine throat, and his face. A car zoomed past, lighting up his eyes for a second.

The dark warning in them set my blood on fire.

“Okay.” My lip quirked. “I won’t.”

He huffed a disbelieving sound.
