“Just because you think she’s cute doesn’t mean you’re going to do anything about it. Yeesh. Who do you take me for?”

I smiled. “You know I don’t like this kind of watercooler talk.”

Jenson pulled his phone out of his pocket. “What’s her name?”

“Jenson —”

“Name.”

I narrowed my eyes at him, but it was clear he wasn’t backing down. “Cara Smith.”

“Smith? You’re just trying to make it difficult.”

“Swear to God, her last name is Smith.”

Jenson began typing. “Fine. Cara…Smith…nanny.” Jenson held up his phone. “This her?”

Sure enough, the very first result was a picture of Cara. Possibly from her daycare days. She had two kids on her lap and another leaning over her shoulder. They were all in the midst of laughter. Cara’s hair was shorter in the picture. But she still had that vivacious energy about her. It shone through the screen.

“Um. Yeah. That’s her, you creep.”

Jenson snorted. “Please, you love me.” He considered the photo for a moment. “She’s young. Cute. But young.”

“Exactly why I didn’t want to have this conversation.”Cutewouldn’t even be the tip of the iceberg of ways I would describe Cara.

“You wouldn’t date a younger woman?”

I sighed. “I don’t know, Jenson. The opportunity has never presented itself.”

“I find that hard to believe.”

I rolled my eyes. “Okay, sure, there have been opportunities. But women her age are usually immature and I don’t have time for that.”

“Well, let me present an opportunity to you. Kerry just finished up working with a client and we think you’d be a great match. She’s twenty-nine, so a bit of a gap, but —”

Alarm bells went off in my head. “Sorry, Jenson, but no.”

“I haven’t even told you about her yet.”

“You don’t need to. The last time you set me up was —”

“Rough. I know. How was I to know she was an ex-con? But this one is different. She’s a chair designer. Like, she only designs chairs. How cool is that?”

I eyed him. He knew my answer was no.

Jenson huffed and then got to his feet. “Fine, if you want to hold out for your nanny, be my guest.”

“I’mnotholding out for my nanny!”

“Then go on this date and prove it!” Jenson shot back just before leaving my office.

I hated being fixed up. But I didn’t want him to continue hounding me about Cara. I knew she was off-limits, even if I did find her completely appealing. But I was already determined to resist any inklings of attraction. Even if I did find myself thinking of her sweet curves and bright amber eyes way too much today. But I couldn’t deal with him exacerbating that.“Fine.”

“You’ll do it?”

“Yes.Now get out of my office.”

“You won’t regret it. Friday, eight o’clock. Somewhere nice. You choose. And Wesley?”
