Eric rolled away from her. “Nope. Go show Ranger what you can do on a bike.”

Kyle stayed in place, but he didn’t relax — he didn’t like the other man putting hands on her like that.

Heather stood without help, quickly made the adjustments, and then rode around easy for a few minutes, getting the feel of the bike. The rest of the group followed her away from the edge and into the woods to a place open enough to maneuver through some tricks — it was an old dirt track, wide enough for a four-wheel drive vehicle, and the tracks to prove it, but Kyle also saw marks that told him the quad riders likely used it as well.

She was in a spot where three wider roads and four narrow trails came together, one of them clearly a dirt-bike trail. The entire area was full of ruts, chert, and rock, and it looked like a horrible place to play around on a dirt bike, but within moments after her warm-up, Kyle saw the moment Heather lost herself in the challenge of the tricks and forgot about her audience. She bounced, twirled, spun, and even went airborne a few times in a bizarre dance of human and bicycle.

However, several minutes into it, her front wheel caught in a rut and she flew away from the bike in a wide arc — a forward flip over the handlebars that had Kyle’s stomach in his throat.

He was on the way to her before she landed, and he noted she tried to roll when she hit the ground, but she didn’t have enough room and slammed into a large tree.

It knocked the breath out of her, and she sat up, fighting to breathe. Kyle kneeled beside her. “You’re okay. Relax and let your body breathe for you. It will happen. You’re okay.”

When she finally sucked air in and was breathing, Marcus was there as well, on her other side, his hand at the back of her arm — touching without holding her. Kyle adjusted his touch so his hand was on the side of her leg instead of one on her hip and another on her shoulder. She didn’t like to feel boxed in under the best of circumstances, and he didn’t want to make this worse.

“Don’t move,” Marcus ordered, and there was no mistaking it for a request. “What hurts?”

“I have to move a little to see what I’ve done.” She said it as a joke, but her tone was clearly exasperated. “Guys, this is not my first fall. Back off. Give me some space.”

Her shin was bleeding from the many rocks stuck into her skin in multiple places.Damn. Kyle touched the skin around the abrasions to look at blood flow, careful he didn’t hurt her worse.

Chapter 12

Heather ignored the men and ran through a quick inventory. She wiggled her toes, rotated her feet to test her ankles, then wiggled fingers and rotated her wrists. She bent both arms at the elbow, noted something wasn’t right with the left elbow, then tensed her shoulders before trying to move her arms. Her left arm and shoulder might have an issue, but she’d figure out the extent later. She focused on her knees and hips, which seemed fine. She moved her head, and finally tensed her upper and lower back.

Eric stepped to her with her backpack — at leastsomeonehad the sense to go for the first aid gear.

“I’m going to sit up now. Eric can you unzip the front pocket and grab the pouch with the baby wipes, please? I’ll need the water bottle, too.”

Marcus moved behind her as she sat up, acting like a chair so she could lean against him. Kyle reached for the wipes when Eric pulled them out, and began to gently clean her leg. Heather wanted to do it, but understood he was worried. Also, he was a doctor and used to taking charge for medical issues, especially when it was skin stuff.

She sat up and watched, and he told her. “Some rocks are embedded. We might be able to get the small ones out, but we should wait until we get you somewhere else to remove the larger ones. It’s going to hurt, no matter what.”

Heather sat forward to get a better look, and noted her shoulder didn’t work right with the movement, but she ignored it. “Hello? Broken chick who doesn’t feel pain?”

She grabbed her water bottle and squirted water over her shin to clean it better. “That’s not so bad. We should get them all out but the biggest, and we’ll save it for last. This is your forte so if you want to do it you can, otherwise, I can handle it.”

Kyle glared at her, but he used some hand sanitizer and then did as she said.

Eric knelt down, balancing on his toes to watch Kyle expertly work on her leg. “I’ve never seen you let someone else care for you like this, Heather. It’s nice to see. What does Kyle do?”

“He’s a plastic surgeon, but he’s also my boyfriend.”

Eric glanced up at Marcus, then looked back to her. “Looks like you have two guys who care about you. You haven’t tossed Marcus on his ass yet for daring to think he can be there to support you. Really, Heather — I’m happy for you. It’s nice to see you allowing someone to care about you.” He grinned. “And the way you live life, somehow seeing you withtwomen fits. Though, I admit I’m more than a little surprised to see you with Marcus. I can usually spot a submissive, and you never hit my radar.”

She heard herself sputtering. “It’s... it’s not like... I’m not…”

Marcus saved her. “This is still new, and we haven’t defined anything yet. It seems I’m probably in more of a mentor role, perhaps. From what I’ve seen so far, I don’t think Heather is very submissive, either.”

Heather turned her head and narrowed her eyes at Marcus. “What does he mean, he’s surprised to see me with you? What did... what does...” She didn’t know how to ask the question.

Marcus looked at Eric. “She knows about me. I’ll leave what you tell her about yourself entirely up to you.”

Eric brushed a sprig of hair away from Heather’s face. “I’m a Dom, just like Marcus. Chattanooga has a few kinky organizations, and many of us in the lifestyle know each other. If I see Marcus holding a girl affectionately, it’s a good bet she’s a sub.”

“But I’m not!”

Marcus chuckled. “No, it doesn’t appear she is.”
