“Fine,” he pouts. Again,super-cute, but I resist. “I’ll try to respect your wishes. But the minute you’re in over your head, you better freaking let me know. Because I will end his ass. You got me?”

“I will, I promise.” Giddiness spreads through me. No one’s ever given me this choice. “If I need your help or protection, I will let you know.”

His eyes narrow, “Immediately.”

“Yes, immediately, of course.”

His shoulders droop, and he wipes a hand over his face. “I trust you, Arabella. I can’t promise that I won’t slip up, but I’ll try to respect your wishes. It won’t be easy. But if you say it’s important to you, I’ll do my best.”

“Thank you.” I crawl up the bed and straddle him, brushing a kiss on his forehead.

He smiles and grips my butt, planting me on his lap. “Anything for you, sweetheart. Anything.” Thunder turns his face into my palm, leaning into my touch. “You know, babe,” he murmurs, his voice a low rumble vibrating through me. “We could always continue this conversation in a much more… intimate setting. I’m thinking—the shower.” His lips brush against mine, and a familiar warmth pools in my belly.

I’m tempted, oh so tempted, to give in to Thunder’s advances. His touch is electrifying, and the chemistry between us is undeniable. But I know I have to resist. I gently push him away, my heart pounding with conflicting emotions. “As much as I’d love to stay, I have to go to work. Molly will be looking for me.”

Thunder gives me another pouty boy look, and this time, I don’t hold back the laughter. “Fine.” he exhales in a huff. “But promise me you’ll come back later?”

“I promise,” while leaning in to give him a quick kiss.

Just as wraps his hand around the back of my head to prolong the kiss, my cell phone vibrates. I glance at the caller ID and see that it’s Molly. I read the message and bolt upright.

Arabella, sorry to interrupt. But someone broke into your apartment last night. You need to get over here right away.

What happened? Did they break into the shop, too?

Shop is fine. How soon can you be here?

Leaving now.

Brace yourself. It’s pretty bad.

On my way.

Police are on their way too.

It’s that bad?

No, it’s worse. Hurry.

My heart skips a beat. For a moment, I can’t breathe. My apartment, my sanctuary, violated by an intruder. I glance at Thunder, who’s watching every emotion play across my face.

“I’m sorry, but I have to go.”

No way is he letting me leave without finding out what’s wrong. He stops my mad dash around the room, looking for my clothes, with a hand on my shoulder. “What happened? Why are you shaking?”

I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself. But as soon as I say the words, my eyes fill, and my voice trembles. “Someone broke into my apartment and trashed the place.”

Thunder’s eyes widen and then narrow, blazing with anger. “Mac,” he seethes, his fists clenched tightly.

I try to calm him down, placing a hand on his arm. “We can’t jump to conclusions, Thunder. We don’t know for sure who did it.”

“It has to be Mac. You just told me he wouldn’t leave you alone.”

“Let’s not jump to conclusions. We need to investigate before we point fingers.”

Thunder stops pacing. His eyes lock on mine. “Who else do you think would do this?”

I bite my lip, knowing that I promised to be honest with him. “It’s probably Mac.”
