I spin around, a shiver rolling down my spine when I see him standing there, my cheeks heating.

The first thing I notice is his roguish smile. Then the steel-blue eyes I could stare into for hours. I send up a silent thank you that he’d taken off his sunglasses. He doesn’t hold himself in a cocky way. Doesn’t act like he knows how hot he is. I’d met enough guys like that in the past. This guy, though, exuded confidence. It was sexy as hell.

Hearing him let out a soft chuckle, I blink, looking back at his face. “W-What?” I ask.

“I said you have a real nice car.”

“Oh…” I glance over my shoulder at it, then back at him. “Thanks. It was my first big purchase. I mean, I’ve bought stuff before. This was the first car I’ve ever bought, though. It was all banged up, so I got it for a steal, then my dad and I spent the last several years rebuilding it. It’s almost done. There are a few minor things that need to be replaced. Shouldn’t take too much longer to get the last few parts we need.”

Stopping, I take a deep breath and shake my head. “And I don’t know why I told you all that. I’m sure you aren’t really interested. So… Yeah… Um, thank you for the compliment.”

If I could smack my face and force myself to shut up, I would. Nothing like a little word vomit in front of the hottest guy I’ve ever seen.

“I don’t mind. You’ve done a really good job. You don’t meet many women who know their way around a car. It’s hot.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

We both stand there, smiling at each other. The need to be closer to him has me taking a small step forward, breathing in the intoxicating smell of leather, oil, and…him.

“Jenny!”

I jerk back and look at the door of the bar, seeing Mustang standing there, frown on his face, narrowed eyes bouncing back and forth between me and the man in front of me.

“Um, I gotta…” I slightly nod at my brother.

“Yeah. I’m sure your dad is waiting.”

My brow furrows. “How did you know I’m here to see my dad?”

He grins. “The family resemblance is uncanny. Plus, I’ve seen you with your dad and brother before.” He quickly holds a hand up. “In passing. Nothing stalkerish.”

I laugh. “Well, that’s good. I’ve never had a stalker before, but I don’t imagine it would go over well with my dad and brother.”

“I would think not.”

“Jenny!”

Looking toward my brother again, I see him wave a hand at me to hurry up. “Just a second,Brian!” I yell with a grin, the use of his real name causing his frown to deepen into a truly impressive scowl. Knowing I don’t have long before he storms across the lot, I look back at the man in front of me. “You know my name. I think it’s only polite I get yours.”

“Well, I’m nothing if not polite,” he jokes. “I’m Maverick. Well, my given name is Chris. But everyone calls me Maverick.”

I can’t stop the large smile from spreading across my face. I can finally put a face to the name I had heard so often.

“Well, Maverick…” I love how his name rolls off my tongue. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“It’s nice to meet you, too, Jenny,” he utters in a low voice, causing my pulse to quicken.

Stealing a glance toward my brother, I see him take a step toward us. My time is almost up.

“Let me see your hand,” I say quickly, reaching into my purse and pulling out a pen.

His eyebrow quirks as he slowly holds out his hand. I flip it over, palm up, and write my number on it.

Releasing his hand, I smile. “Just in case you want to call. Talk about cars or something.”

Grinning, he reaches for the pen and my hand. I suck in a quick breath as he writes his number on my palm, his thumb rubbing my skin lightly, tingles shooting up my arm.
