Cleaning up Fat Mike’s mess had been a task. The main issue had been severing any connection with Tick and his Jackals. That took almost three years, but once we got them to realize we were more trouble than we were worth, things moved pretty smoothly.

And now, over two decades later, I can say the Wicked Rogues are once again whole, healthy, and back to being the club it had been when I’d joined…if not better.

Sure, there were some other issues along the way, but nothing we couldn’t handle. We also had a lot of great times over the years. Brothers who had left came back as soon as they heard the news, like Dog, who’d barely escaped Freddie one night.

On a more personal note, I took Jenny’s desire to keep me forever and made it reality, much to her father’s and brother’s dismay. I think Mustang was opposed to us being together because he didn’t think anybody was good enough for his sister, but both men warmed up to me after a while… Alongwhile.

I know Brick respected me, just as I respected him, but he was adamant he didn’t want this life for his daughter. I couldn’t blame the man for that, so I made sure to prove to him every chance I got that I would take care of Jenny. Her mother, on the other hand, told me that if her daughter was happy, she was happy. However, she made sure to tell me her husband wasn’t the only one who could make people “disappear”. The hard look in her eyes made me stifle my laughter, because I knew she was serious. But hearing her sweet mother tell me that made me realize I was going to love being a part of this family. Which was good, since I planned on being around a long time.

So, one year to the day of our first night together, I proposed.

I’m not a huge romantic, but I’ve been told I have my moments. That day, I took Jenny for a ride, drove to the beach, and proposed as the sun set over the water. She cried, then gave me one of her heart-stopping smiles as she said “yes”.

That one word had changed my world, making me wonder how I had ever lived without her.

We set the date for two weeks in the back yard of the clubhouse. We’d partied through the night, then Jenny and I took off for a week in Tahoe. Having her all to myself, laughing with me throughout the day as we enjoyed the sites, then moaning with me at night, was perfect.

Nine months later, Cole was born.

I didn’t think I could love anyone as much as I loved Jenny. The day Cole came into this world and I held him in my arms for the first time, my whole world changed once again.

He was rambunctious, adorable, and the perfect mixture of both myself and Jenny, growing from a delightful toddler to an amazing man. I couldn’t be prouder.

Then, seven years after Cole was born, I received a call I’d been dreading over the years. One I knew was inevitable. My sister, who had disappeared all those years earlier, had lost her life to the drugs she loved more than herself. I had no time to think too hard on thewhat if’sbecause, to my surprise, I learned I had a niece. One who needed me, needed her family. So, with the full support of Jenny, Cole, and the club, I took off as fast as I could.

Abigail…

As she got into the truck after I picked her up from the police station, her soft voice informed me she preferred Abby. It was both adorable and heartbreaking.

I wish I had known about her sooner. Been able to shield her from the horrors no child should witness.

I can’t change the past, but I’ve sure spent every day since making up for it. We all have, and we all love her dearly.

Walking into the bar area, I spot her and Cole shooting pool with Cross, Abby giving both men a hard time. Cole is prospecting for the club and will probably be a member soon. He has worked hard and has found his way in this life, just like I knew he would. Of course, Jenny and I were worried about him and Abby growing up around the club, but decided that it was far safer for them here. Better for them to know the dangers and how to take care of themselves.

Abby looks up from lining up her shot and waves at me, smiling. Then she goes back to the game, shooting. Right into the left pocket.

“You heading out?”

Hearing the rough voice behind me, I turn to see Smoke.

“Yeah. Thought I’d head down to Brimmer’s for a drink before heading home. I’m making meatloaf tonight. You gonna swing by?”

“Yeah. I have a few phone calls to make, then I was going to head out myself.”

Knowing he was going to call his brothers, I nod. They had gone to our New Orleans’ charter to help the president, King, with some territory problems. When he’d called in need of assistance, I knew the triplets were the best ones to send.

“How are the boys doing?”

“Good. They almost have King’s issues handled, but I think they plan on sticking around for a while once they’re done. Unless we need them, of course.”

“Tell them to enjoy a little downtime. They deserve it.”

“Will do.” He nods, turning toward the hallway. “I’ll see you in a bit.”

Waving a hand over my head, I make my way out to my bike, only stopping briefly to talk with a few brothers. Before too long, I’m on the road, weaving my way along the street.

Pulling into Brimmer’s parking lot, I notice it is fairly empty for this time of day. That suits me fine, though. I just want to have a quick drink before heading home.
