“Is there a door number three?” There had to be another door. If not, I’d have to make one. Because I was all in. For the first time in more years than I could remember, I was all in with a woman. I didn’t want to leave her.

“Nope. Not in this instance.”

“I can’t leave yet.”

“Because of Evan?” Roman asked, lifting his mug to his mouth and taking a sip.

I started to say yes but then shut my mouth. I stayed because of Moira, not because of Evan. He had been a convenient excuse to make myself feel better because of my feelings for her.

“No,” I admitted. “I didn’t stay for Evan. I stayed for her.”

“Do you love her?”

Did I? Oh, fuck. I loved her. I rubbed the ache in my chest. It should be too soon. Wasn’t it supposed to take longer to fall in love? Jesus fuck, I loved her. I blurted, “Yes. I love her.”

Roman gave me a shit-eating grin. “Thought so.”

I loved Moira. And I’d fallen for her hard. So hard I was still stunned by the impact. “Yeah, but it still doesn’t explain why she acted the way she did this morning. She said she had a lunch date.”

“And all of a sudden she was acting cold?”

“It was a complete one-eighty from the way she acted last night.” Because we’d not been able to get enough of each other. The only reason we stopped was because our bodies had given out.

“She’s scared, plain and simple. And it’s no wonder, with the stalker coming after her, that she would think the best course of action would be to cut you loose. She never would have done that if you didn’t matter.”

I thought back to everything Evan had told me about Moira back in the day. And the fucker was right. “Son of a bitch. It never would have happened if she hadn’t caught me upon waking.”

“I’m thinking it was planned. She wanted you off your game to make it easier on her.”

“But I don’t understand why she would do that.” She’d hurt me intentionally this morning.

“Because you matter, and she’s trying to protect you. Now you’ve got to decide what you want.”

“Her.” There was very little I was sure of in this life, but Moira was one of them. She was it for me. I loved her. I wanted us to have a real shot at being a real couple, with all the hardships and pitfalls.

“How fast can you make the transfer happen?” I asked him, even as my heart squeezed because I wouldn’t be rejoining Wyatt and the others on their trek across the country. I made my decision. My place was here with Moira. It would be an adjustment for both of us. But one I was up to the challenge for because my prize was being with her.

Roman grinned. “I’ll call up Admiral Johnson on Monday. No way in hell am I disturbing him on the weekend.”

“Okay. I’m going to need a place on base, too, just in case.” Because at the end of the day, if I had to wear her down until she said yes to me, even if it took months, I would do it.

“I can help make that happen once the transfer goes through.”

“I’m going to the club tonight.”

“I’d say you’re a fool if you didn’t. We’re getting close to the stalker, making them jumpy.”

“More than you realize.” I filled him in on last night’s events after the tire incident. We didn’t find the stalker in the alley. But I didn’t doubt what Moira had seen. Thank goodness she’d had the wherewithal to head to the front of the club and find us. I shudder to think of what could have happened.

“Okay, then we need to construct a plan to trap the son of a bitch.”

“Why don’t we call in Liam and Owen, have them get their asses over here, and we can figure out the best method to catch this asshole?” Our relationship wouldn’t get back to normal until this fucker was caught. The sooner we accomplished that, the sooner I would get my woman back.

“Hooyah. I’m in.” Roman smiled evilly, like he was looking forward to doing the stalker bodily harm.

Well, he could get in line, because nobody messed with my woman.
