But wait—he what? “You changed her diaper?”

“Yep. She was wet. So we changed her diaper, then came downstairs. I got her started with some milk and apple slices while I made pancakes and eggs.”

This man. How was he real?

Going with her gut, she went to him. He sat in a chair at the table beside her daughter. Took his face in her hands, his beard tickling her palms, and leaned down and kissed him. She poured everything he made her feel into her kiss.

He gripped her waist and drew her between his legs.

He was too good to be true. And she was in serious trouble. Because he made her want to lay her heart at his feet and beg him to keep them. With him, she could be what she always in her heart of hearts wanted to be—a stay-at-home mama with a big family full of love and devotion.

And the thought of having his child rocked her foundation because she could see how happy they could be. The vision reached into the very heart of her and grabbed hold. Did they have a chance to make this marriage the real thing?

When she ended the kiss and lifted her mouth, Jasper’s smolder made her wet instantly. It was like he’d performed hoodoo on her pussy.

“Now, that’s a good morning ritual I want every day of our marriage,” Jasper growled, his hands squeezing her hips.

She leaned in and whispered in his ear. “Yes, Daddy.”

He cupped the back of her head and murmured beside her ear. “Careful, lass, otherwise I’m liable to forget myself. And that means putting the television on and Maddie in her playpen while I bend you over the kitchen table and fuck you raw.”

Her sex clenched at his dirty threat. Jasper drew back, his hot gaze studying her closely. As if he waited for her to push him past the limit. And god, she was tempted.

“Why do I get the feeling you wouldn’t fight me?”

Because she wouldn’t. She craved his wicked brand of lovemaking. She ached to feel him inside her again. Not that she would admit how much power he had over her. She shrugged. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. You know, it’s such a nice day out. We should go for a walk after breakfast.”

“I’m at your disposal. Whatever my girls want to do today.”

His girls? Her soul shivered.

Freya liked the sound of that. She liked him calling them that far too much. “Well, why don’t we do that first and we can figure the rest out.”

“We’re pretty close to Vail. Perhaps tomorrow we could go do the touristy thing.”

“Yay.” Maddie clapped.

Jasper tossed his head back and laughed, a deep throaty chuckle that twisted in her belly. “I guess we’re going to Vail tomorrow.”

“Sounds like a plan. Would my wife like some pancakes?” He squeezed her hips again. The man seemed to enjoy touching her since he’d yet to release her.

Not that she minded one bit. She liked the way he couldn’t let her go, the way he held her while she’d fallen asleep. This man was making it next-level impossible to keep her heart from getting involved. “I’d love some. Where are they? I can—”

“Get yourself a cup of coffee and have a seat. I’m more than capable of feeding my wife.” Jasper released her and rose from his seat. He forced her back, giving her a saucy wink and a playful smack on her butt.

Freya fucking purred at the love tap. If Maddie wasn’t awake and watching every move, she’d jump him.

She’d been worried all week for nothing. Their marriage was turning out better than she could have imagined. Now she just needed the passports to go through, and everything would be perfect.

And she would not worry about potential pitfalls today. For once in her life, she was just going to enjoy living. Enjoy the fact that she was married to a smoking hot, testosterone-laden manly man with the best heart of anyone she’d ever met, who liked giving her multiple orgasms because he enjoyed giving her pleasure.

Pinch me because I must be dreaming.

After breakfast, they went for a long walk with Maddie in her stroller. Jasper was so good with her. Stopping at everything she pointed at to explain what it was and how it functioned. Maddie listened raptly to everything Jasper told her.

If Freya believed in wishes, she would wish for Jasper to be Maddie’s father. Because he was exactly what a father should be. Patient, kind, caring. A man her daughter could look up to and admire.

Once they returned home from their walk, they swam for a bit. Maddie loved the water. And that she could give this to her kid made her heart swell and open. She hadn’t realized how closed down she had been. Her only thought for so long had been survival. And now that she wasn’t worried where their next meal would come from, all the tension had left her body.
