Kieran wrapped an arm around Brooklyn’s waist and pulled him close. His lips were soft, and his breath tickled Brooklyn’s cheek as he whispered, “Missed you,” sending shivers of electricity down Brooklyn’s spine. When their lips touched, the world spun in a dizzy haze of pleasure, and all Brooklyn could do was hold on tight.

Marcus cleared his throat. “Are you going to introduce me, or are you two going to strip naked and paw at each other?”

Brooklyn didn’t miss the “paw” reference.

“You have company.” Kieran let him go. “Do you want me to come back?”

Brooklyn was stunned. Blaine would have asked who Marcus was and made him feel so uncomfortable that he’d have no choice but to leave. But Kieran had volunteered to go instead.

He pulled his mate into his apartment. “This is my friend Marcus. Marcus, this is Kieran.”

“A pleasure.” Kieran walked over to Marcus, took his hand, and kissed his knuckles. A spark of jealousy lit up Brooklyn’s heart, until Kieran wrapped an arm around Brooklyn’s waist and drew him close. He liked how possessive his mate got over him, something Blaine had never done in all their years together.

And damn, Brooklyn really needed to stop comparing the two. That wasn’t fair to Kieran.

“I’m the one leaving.” Marcus got up. “Tell me you have a gorgeous brother or cousin or even a friend.”

Kieran grinned. “I know a few guys. Why?”

“Hook me up.” Marcus headed for the door. “Get my deets from Brooklyn. I’m out, bitches.”

“Wait, you’re tipsy,” Brooklyn said.

“I got here in an Uber, and I’ll order one to get home.”

“Then stay until it gets here.” Brooklyn wasn’t having his friend waiting outside where danger lurked. He would never forgive himself if something happened while Marcus waited outside his building.

“I could give you a ride,” Kieran offered.

“Are you sure?” Marcus asked. “I don’t want to ruin any plans you have with Brooklyn.”

“We insist.” Brooklyn grabbed his keys and phone. “I’d feel a lot better if we took you.” He’d already grabbed his belongings from Marcus’s house and put them in his new spot, but Brooklyn felt the need to make certain Marcus made it home safely.

“Thanks.” Marcus walked out first. Kieran planted one more kiss on Brooklyn’s lips before taking his hand and leading him to the bottom of the stairs. The weather outside was a bit chilly with dark clouds hovering over the night sky. Brooklyn realized he’d forgotten to grab a jacket as he hopped into the passenger seat of Kieran’s car.

“Sweet ride,” Marcus said as he climbed into the backseat.

“Thanks.” Kieran took off. Brooklyn started to give him the address until he recalled that Kieran had been the wolf who’d shown up in Marcus’s backyard. They were there in fifteen minutes.

After making sure Marcus had made it inside, Kieran looked at Brooklyn. “Do you want to go back to your place?”

Brooklyn wanted that. Although he liked Kieran’s house, he didn’t want to be around so many people. “Sounds perfect. I need to stop at a store, though, to pick up a few things.”

“Got it.” He entwined his fingers with Brooklyn’s. “I didn’t get a chance to ask, but how was your day, sweetheart?”

Brooklyn chuckled. “Are we at that stage already?”

“I’d love to hear about it.” Kieran shrugged. “It’s not always about my world, you know. I want to know everything about you, Brooklyn.”

Brooklyn’s heart was going to melt all over the floor. “Got a client squared away, then Marcus and I drank wine for the rest of the time. How about you?”

Kieran’s fingers tightened around Brooklyn’s. “Didn’t find the guy who attacked you.”

“Is that all you did?” Brooklyn asked. “Hunt?”

A smile surfaced on Kieran’s handsome face. “Sat at a bar and had a drink with Logan.”

“Friendships are important.”
