His mate took his hand and led him to the kitchen. Brooklyn had just eaten some cereal—which was totally dinner food in his opinion—and Kieran had brought enough bagels to feed an army. Brooklyn could stand to eat two or three of them since the cereal hadn’t put a dent in his appetite.

He sat at the table, while Kieran pulled the cream cheese and toppings out. Brooklyn spread cream cheese on his bagel before he added strawberry preserves. Kieran slathered his bagel with cream cheese and guacamole.

“That’s not a bad idea,” Brooklyn said. “I’ve never had guacamole on a bagel before, and I love the stuff.”

“You’ll love the combination.” Kieran held his bagel to Brooklyn’s mouth.

Brooklyn took a bite, his gaze never leaving his mate’s. The flavors burst over his tongue, and he had to admit how good it was. He also had to admit that this little bagel-eating session had helped ground him after what Blaine had done.

“I do love it.” Brooklyn chewed his bagel and swallowed.

Kieran took a bite of his bagel, chewed, and swallowed before he spoke. “Do you want to talk about what happened before I came in?”

Brooklyn shook his head. “I don’t want to talk about him. I’m done with him.”

“Are you sure? You looked really frightened when you thought I was going to kill him.”

Brooklyn laid his hand on top of Kieran’s. “He wasn’t worth your effort, and you don’t know Blaine like I do. Even though we were a couple for years, I never knew the real Blaine. And to be honest, I don’t want to know him. I’m glad you stopped him. That’s the best thing I could have hoped for.”

Kieran stroked Brooklyn’s cheek. “I’d kill anyone who tried to hurt you.”

“I know you would, because you’re my mate.” Brooklyn kissed Kieran’s palm. “Thank you for being you.”

Kieran smiled. “I’m glad you feel that way. I’m also glad you’re done with him. I’d much rather spend my time showing you how good I can be to you.”

Brooklyn gently stroked Kieran’s beard. The strands were surprisingly soft under his fingertips. “You’ve done nothing but show me how good you can be to me since I met you.”

That was the honest truth. Kieran had been there for him at every turn, and the sex was phenomenal. Kieran was caring, considerate, and, admittedly, badass. He was the entire package, a guy Brooklyn had dreamed of having. Most importantly, Brooklyn knew in his heart that Kieran would never cheat on him.

Kieran leaned in and kissed him. “You’re my mate. It’s my job to make you happy.”

Brooklyn’s heart swelled. He was falling in love with Kieran. He decided to go with his heart and not let anything hold him back. Nearly dying had put things into perspective, and Brooklyn was going to leap off that ledge and pray he wasn’t making a mistake by confessing his feelings so soon. “I think I’m in love with you.”

Kieran looked as if he’d swallowed his bagel whole. “You love me?”

“I do,” Brooklyn said.

Kieran wrapped his arms around Brooklyn. “You’re the best thing to ever happen to me. I love you too.”

Brooklyn kissed him, sealing the deal. “You know, we’re having a serious conversation while eating bagels.”

Kieran laughed. “That’s an odd thing, isn’t it?”

“I’ll say.” Brooklyn was incredibly happy. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt this way. Definitely not with Blaine. The difference between the two was night and day.

Kieran put down his bagel and grabbed Brooklyn’s. He took a bite of it.

Brooklyn laughed, watching his mate with the bagel in his mouth. “I never realized you could eat your way into another man’s heart.”

“I’d eat you if I could.” Kieran winked. “You taste much better.”

“Two can play at that.” Brooklyn grabbed Kieran’s bagel off the table and took a bite.

“What are you doing?”

“Duh. I’m eating your bagel.”

Kieran grinned. “You have cream cheese on your face.”
