‘Maria made it sound like you haven’t been home in a while.’ I grabbed the rail with my spare hand and led us up to where I knew I could without a doubt control all.

‘Did she?’ It sounded like a question, but I made sure that the tone of voice I spoke with left her in no doubt I wasn’t going to talk about it.

‘Salvatore?’

We reached the top of the stairs and taking long strides I steered us towards our master suite. Reaching out, I pushed the polished silver handle down sharply, and the door opened wide in front of us. Changing my hold on my wife, I placed a hand into the small of her back and ushered her in front of me and inside. I could feel the sense of calm rushing around my system at the thought of having her back with me, back where she belonged. Serafina took a couple of steps into our large room and forgetting her questions for a few seconds, she looked around our room.

It had to be said that Maria had as usual done us proud.

Our bedroom was lit by candlelight and adorned with white flowers, some of which, even though I had no idea of their name, I knew had been included in my wife’s wedding bouquet. Their scent was filling the room and the candles flickered on the warm breeze billowing in through the blowing voiles at the open doors of our balcony. In front of the doors, on the small, round table, my eyes found Champagne, grappa and fresh fruit.

Serafina made a small gasp and then covered her mouth with one hand as she tried to contain her emotions. I knew it would only be seconds before she asked the same question of me, and I smothered down my feelings. The time for anger, pain, feelings and emotions had been worked through and gone.

It had been replaced with the need to control her and the want to test all her limits.

Leaning my weight against the door behind me, it resoundingly clicked shut, signalling how we were once again alone, and I watched her body jump in reaction. I appreciated that every nerve ending in her body was on high alert.

Impatience gained the upper hand. Taking the next step, I slid the bolt across fast on our bedroom door, knowing how the finality of the sound would sharpen her focus even further.

Her lips parted as she turned to face me once again and her eyes concentrated at first on my hand, which was now coming back in front of my body. As I slowly clicked each of my knuckles in turn as though I was slowly counting, I watched her awareness jump up a notch each time I forcibly released air from my joints.

Without so much as brushing my fingers against her, I distinguished she was already right there on the edge. I had understood long ago that my actions were the perfect prelude to foreplay, but only with Serafina did I care that all her responses were a reaction to me. She was now focussed solely on yours truly and what I might do next. The stimulation of her subconscious was transmitting her needs to her flesh and making her aware of every single part of her that was now screaming loudly for my attention.

My own needs were rousing in response. The want to be balls deep inside her warm, willing, wet pussy was a prevalent thought, one that needed shelving, for the time being.

‘You have one question, little bird. Make sure it’s a good one,’ I encouraged as I slowly pushed myself off the door behind me.

‘I…’ She started and stalled, as she watched me. First, I kicked off my shoes and lost my suit jacket to the floor. After, I dropped my shoulder blades to release my holster.

‘Go on,’ I encouraged, while keeping a smile to myself.

‘I want to know why…’ Her words stopped again as she watched me place my holster on the side table and flick the catch to release my gun. Fleetingly, I let my eyes drift from hers to remove the cold metal. Now, carrying my gun, I took a step towards her as I removed my tie, deliberately making the silk whip through air.

Her head turned quickly following the noise.

‘Serafina?’ I spoke her name loudly as I questioned her.

Truthfully, I knew what she wanted to know and wasn’t bothered if she ever managed to speak the words, but I was enjoying the game of cat and mouse.

‘Haven’t you been here without me?’ At last, she forced the words out.

‘No.’

‘Why?’

‘My home is wherever you are. I visited you as often as I could in London.’

‘Where did you…’

‘I said one question only,’ I reprimanded her as I stepped up and into her space. Gently, I rested the barrel of my gun on her open lips, sparking a reaction in her eyes. The turquoise shone out as brilliantly as before. I recognised then, that in her eyes I’d been vindicated. With the safety catch on, I threw the gun onto our large, antique four poster bed, which was placed in the very centre of the room. ‘But mainly back at my grandfather’s, in the bed we shared on our wedding night.’

She shook her head at me, looking hurt and I knew she deserved more.

‘When I slept there, I slept there by myself.’

Her shoulders sagged with relief.

‘The time for talking has ended,’ I concluded. ‘Now, it’s time for pleasure. Take off my shirt,’ I demanded.
