I darted forward, pulling the curtain back just an inch for me to peek through, and I found Blake already seated in the chair he had been in earlier. His legs were crossed, and he looked perfectly at ease. There was no sign that he had just been on his knees, ravishing me mere moments before.

His eyes met mine, and his mouth tugged up in one corner in a cocky grin. I jumped back, letting the curtain drop closed, embarrassed that I had gotten caught looking after him. Yet again.

I tried to busy myself by pulling the black gown off the floor and placing it back on the hanger.

I pulled my clothes back on slowly, giving myself enough time to fully come down from the mind-blowing oral I had just received. Plus, I got a little bolt of satisfaction from making Blake wait.

By the time I pulled back the curtain, all of the dresses I had tried on draped over my arms, Kat was standing by Blake and chatting away with him. His eyes flicked to me the moment I stepped out, his lips ticking up in a grin as he watched me cross the storeroom floor, and I tried not to squirm under his watchful gaze.

Kat must have realized that he wasn’t looking at her, and she followed his gaze, her eyes landing on me.

“Oh, you’re all done,” she tittered, hustling over to me to take the gowns off my hands.

I handed them over to her, draping them across her arms before plucking the black off the top.

“Now, Blake already told me which one you’re choosing. I’ll get these re-racked, and then I’ll take a few measurements. I’m pretty sure this won’t need many alterations.”

She said the words in a rush, not looking back at me as she walked across the shop and began putting the gowns back on the racks. I watched her, unsure what to do but not wanting to look at Blake, who I could feel watching me. I could only imagine the smug look on his face, and I didn’t want to feed his ego any further by turning my attention back to him.

When Kat finished, she whirled back toward me. She stopped for a moment to adjust her glasses before marching back in my direction.

“Let’s go,” she murmured as she walked past me, grabbing my arm to lead me toward her workstation on the far side of the building.

She had me step behind a folding screen and put the gown back on, tugging and pinning it in various places to ensure a perfect fit.

The woman’s fingers worked deftly, moving me of her own accord as she worked, and I was more than happy to oblige. It took an entirety of fifteen minutes, and then I was back in my clothes and walking over to Blake.

He was still sitting in the exact same spot, not looking like he had a care in the world, as he smiled when I approached. I grinned back at him, refusing to let him see how much being in his presence was getting to me now. Especially with the memory of his mouth on my skin so fresh in my mind.

“All done?” He raised an eyebrow at me, and I nodded.

“Yep. Kat says we can pick the dress up Thursday.”

“Lovely.” He stood in one fluid motion, and I suddenly realized I had stopped much closer to him than I had intended.

The grin on his face told me he was well aware of that fact, too. Blake yelled his goodbyes to Kat, and she yelled back that she would send him the bill, and then we were walking out of the shop.

As we got to the car, I stopped and stared at the back seat, not wanting to be that close to him again. Not when I wasn’t sure if I could keep my hands off him. But I didn’t really have a choice, so I slid in and sat as close to the door as I possibly could.

“So,” Blake said as he sat down beside me. “We got you the dress. Now how about some accessories?”

He looked at me and wiggled his eyebrows, but I was already shaking my head.

“The dress is enough,” I protested. “I’m already not liking you spending that much money on me. I won’t take anything else. Plus, I have stuff at home that I think will look great with it.”

“Well, there’s one piece of jewelry I do need to give you.”

He fished around in his pants pocket before extracting a delicate, blue velvet box and holding it out to me. I took it with shaking hands before popping open the lid, and when I saw the beautiful ring nestled inside, a small gasp escaped me.

“Blake,” I breathed, glancing from the box in my hand to his face. “This is stunning.”

And it was. A delicate silver band with a large, vibrant pear-shaped sapphire seated next to an entwining inlay of diamonds. It was one of the most beautiful and unique rings I had ever seen.

And it was clearly incredibly expensive.

I recalled his promise that he hadn’t spent anything on the ring, and doubt washed through me as I continued to admire it.

“And you’re sure this wasn’t expensive?” I asked, not able to disguise the doubt lacing my voice.
