He was surprised to find himself thinking that Elio would make a good father. And a much better partner than Catherine ever had. What a crazy thought to have about a man who he’d only met a few hours ago.

A man who’d been bouncing around in a look-at-me swimsuit until he’d changed into a hoodie and jeans in deference to the chilly night air. He was somehow just as magnetic discussing fire safety tips with James’s son.

Elio caught his gaze and winked, that flop of hair looking dangerous and oh-so-young in the firelight.

James could feel his face flame, all of his thoughts scattering.

Elio might look young, but he was clearly mature, and competent in a million ways that James wasn’t. Like with the tent. And the way that he’d told James to squeeze his balls…

James shut his eyes, glad that the gathering darkness hid his face. He’d relived that moment a thousand times today. The hungry press of Elio’s lips. The clear commands, and the sharp confusing pain that had only spun his arousal higher. And the gleeful approval on Elio’s face, like he couldn’t wait to make that happen again.

So… James probably needed to face some things about himself. Like maybe he wasn’t just gay, but also kinky. That was what that was, right?

He’d only just started to let himself think about who he was attracted to, and so far, his tentative thoughts had tended toward larger guys. Older men. In his few forays into porn, some of the guys he’d watched were so scary that he’d never approach them in real life. But all of them looked like they knew what they were doing.

But Elio… He was smaller, and younger, but he clearly knew what he was doing.

Squeeze your balls. Hard. Now.

James was chubbing up again in his khakis.

If they got together… would Elio top? Was that the assumption? Elio’s ass in the air when he’d leaned into the car earlier seemed to be an invitation to, uh, do things the other way. But did that change if James was… submissive?

That’s what it was, wasn’t it? He was a doctor. He had all the terminology.

He wasn’t sure he was ready for anal sex tonight.

Oh God. He needed to think of something else. Fast.

He watched Dana across the fire, where she was giggling about something on Ava’s phone.

“Diana?” Ava asked.

Dana shook her head. “Too close. And too girly.”

Ah. They were talking about names. Was she really going to change her name? Time had seemed to wheel on a crazy kaleidoscope since the divorce. Moving homes. New schedules for the kids. Mikey’s behaviors. And now Dana wanted a new name. That wasn’t too girly.

“Hmmm… Artemis? That’s the Greek version. Goddess of the hunt.”

Dana considered. Was he really going to call his daughter Artemis?

“I don’t like the sound of it. I want something cool.”

“Hey, Artemis is badass.” Ava gave Dana a playful shove. “But let’s try this one. Gender neutral baby names. Harper? Avery? Dakota? Finley? Ooh, I like Brooklyn. Or Dakota.”

“Yes! That’s what I want. Not a girl’s name.” Dana grabbed the phone and scrolled down.

“We could look at boy’s names too,” Ava suggested.

“Next,” Dana decided, gaze still fixed on the phone.

Ava met James’s eyes across the fire, one eyebrow raised in question. Hell, what was he supposed to do? Was this a declaration of something? Gender exploration? Tween-aged rebellion against the parents? A re-naming after the divorce? Dana’s name came from Catherine’s family.

Thank goodness someone else was leading this discussion. James sort of nodded back at Ava. At least he could show his support.

Elio spoke up. “Did you know that I chose my own name?”

Dana was riveted. James was, too.
