“I got a better idea,” he says. Then he lifts me in his arms and carries me out of the room, down the hall, and into his room. Zeke sets me down in the middle of his bed and lies down next to me, grabbing the sheets and blankets to cover us both. He’s on his side, and his heavy arm slings across my waist. “Get some sleep, Jazzy. I’ll watch over you tonight.”

“You shouldn’t have to…”

“Things got real. What happened today was intense, and what you’re going through is perfectly normal. I can’t change the day, but I can make sure you feel safe now. My apartment has a top-of-the-line security system. No one gets in here without me knowing about it. The only people who know where you are are people I trust with my life.” He glides his fingertips over my eyelids. “Trust me, baby. Sleep.”

It doesn’t happen right away, but eventually, my muscles unclench, and I’m able to find the blissful peace of sleep.

Zeke

I’m being tested by God himself. A beautiful woman comes into my life, and someone’s trying to kill her. Now she’s in my apartment, in my bed, and in her sleep has pressed up next to me, the warmth of her skin against mine. Her scent is intoxicating, and her leg intertwines with mine while she sleeps.

Even in sleep, she’s exquisite. Her lips are slightly parted, her hair splayed across the pillow. The crook of her neck on my arm makes it go numb, and yet I would rather suffer the pain than move her off me.

Aniggling ringing keeps going off. My head is foggy with sleep, and it takes me a second to realize my phone is ringing. I stretch out my hand, searching for it on the bedside table.

“’Lo,” I grunt.

Damian’s voice rumbles in my ear. “Don’t tell me you’re still sleeping.”

“What time is it?”

“Nearly nine thirty. We’ll be there by ten. Good thing I called,” he kids. The call wakes Jasmine. She stirs in my arms, then pushes herself up to a sitting position, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

“You bringing breakfast?” I ask.

Chloe’s cheerful tone comes through. “It’s Chloe. And have I ever let you starve?”

“Never, and I’m grateful for that.” I chuckle. “Right. We’re up, and we’ll be waiting for coffee,” I tease. I disconnect as Jasmine climbs out of bed. She’s freaking adorable with her flushed cheeks and her hair sticking up. She’s biting her lower lip and shifting from one foot to another.

“Um, thanks for last night,” she says, her voice a little shaky.

“It’s good that you slept. I’m sure you heard that Damian and Chloe are on their way, and I’m sure the others are as well. I’m going to jump in the shower first. Are you going to be all right?”

“I’m good. I think everything caught up with me all at once.” She can’t meet my eyes, clearly embarrassed.

I get up and walk over to where she’s standing and caress her cheek. “Hey, we talked about this. I’m glad I was here. We’re going to figure this out. Pretty soon, this will all be a bad memory.”

As she peers up at me through her lashes, I feel the urge to kiss her. Not one of those reassuring, brotherly ones, but a kiss that fuels a fire that can only be quenched by tossing her back onto the bed and burying myself deep inside her.

I force myself to take a step back and arrange a placid smile on my face.

Under the cool water, I’m able to regain composure. That is until I recall the way she snuggled up to me all night. Then my cock decides to awaken again. I give in to the need to relieve myself. I’m primed as it is. All I have to do is close my eyes and think of the sounds she makes when she sleeps and wonder what she sounds like when she comes. I imagine her bare breasts filling my hands, soft and supple. I wonder if those nipples are light and pink, or darker and rosier. Either way, I’d suck one into my mouth, listening to her gasp of pleasure. With one hand between her legs, I’d feel her slickness, knowing I’d fill her with my cock and watch her eyes widen as I did.

Christ, that’s all it takes. I come in my hand, restraining my groan, bending my head forward to press against the tiled wall, letting the spray of water beat down.

Jasmine is more than I expected, and her beauty is only one part of her. She’s smart and kind. I know physical attraction, and I felt it immediately with her, but I’ve felt that before. After a while, the attraction wanes and what’s left is the heart and soul. Last night, I got to know her, and she’s beautiful on the inside too. The way she talks about her parents and the love she has for them tells me she’s all about family, just like me.

She calls her pupils her kids. But it’s the way she says it like she means it, and she takes her responsibilities to educate and inspire these young minds seriously. She’s got a keen sense of duty and responsibility. I really like her, and I know she feels something for me as well.

As great as some of the women I’ve dated have been, there’s never been a connection like the one I have with Jasmine. Maybe it’s the dire situation she’s in that’s making me feel this way, but my gut says it isn’t. I can’t do anything about this, though, until the threat is eliminated.

When emotions are high, we make rash choices. Jasmine needs to feel secure, and I need to know this is real before I make a move. With my decision made, I step out of the shower and hurry to get dressed before the cavalry arrives.

At the stroke of ten, as promised, Chloe, Damian, Sabrina, and Alex arrive on my doorstep. Chloe gives me a quick hug, then takes off to introduce herself to Jasmine. Thirty seconds later, you would swear they’ve become best friends.
