At that moment, Minty walked into the kitchen and froze.
I moved to pull away, but lucky tightened his grip “Come here, baby,” he called to Minty. “Hope and Ares left the girls with a babysitter, and she locked Brayleigh in a bedroom to cry herself to sleep.”
Minty gasped, then glided toward us. “Can I get in on this hug?”
Lucky and I both opened our arms and drew Minty in close.
Her soft arms held me.
Her steady presence calmed me.
Her sweetness with my daughter soothed the ache inside me.
I squeezed her closer and pressed my forehead against Lucky’s chest. “I’m sorry, Lucky. I’m so sorry.”
“That’s enough,” Minty soothed. “It’s all good. She’s fine. You’re a good mommy. You take such good care of her. Your giant heart. Always giving. So much love and joy in you. She’s lucky to have you.”
I sucked in a cleansing breath and hazarded a look at her face.
“I’m lucky to have you,” she added.
Calm.
Serene.
Honest.
I drew away from them and palmed the tears from my cheeks. “You think so?”
“I know so.”
My breath shuddered in and out a few times. “Well, you’ve still got the best ass I’ve ever seen. And if I swung that way, you’d be my pick.”
Lucky laughed. “Not this a-fucking-gain. I have to fight you and Brayleigh now?”
I choked out a watery laugh. “Can we order pizza?”
“Well,” Minty answered drily, her hand going to her bum. “It’s certainly growing.”

I’d seen Hope dance, but I’d never seen her perform. There was a difference. She took the stage as if she owned it. In my eyes, she was the only one up there.
There, she was comfortable.
There, she was graceful.
Powerful.
Fucking Divine.
I wished I had someone to hold Sia so I could capture her on film. There would be time for that. We weren’t going anywhere.
I winced at the knowledge I needed to hire a new night nanny. Just the thought of leaving her with a stranger turned my blood to ice. The idea she might be mistreated boiled my blood.
