“You do?” I breathed.

His mouth quirked. “Of course.”

My brows lowered. “You’re not the best communicator.”

He nodded in agreement. “I’ll work on that.”

“You will?” I stared up at him. Bemused.

He smiled widely. “Yes, beautiful girl. I will.” Cupping my face in his palms, he brushed his lips over mine. “I want you to be comfortable with me.”

My eyes fluttered shut.

His lips teased and caressed.

Stealing my breath.

Stealing my heart.

“No hiding yourself,” he continued. “You don’t need to keep your guard up.”

“I’ll try to relax,” I murmured against his lips. “You’re not easy to read.”

His lips against mine, he promised, “I’ll make it easy for you. I think you’re all kinds of wonderful.”

“Not a brat?”

“It’s part of your charm.”

I smiled against his mouth.

Felt him smile back.

My heart grew wings and soared. “Ares…”

The words spun on the tip of my tongue. I struggled to hold them in. I fought to let them go.

“Yes, beautiful girl?”

I’ll never get married.

My heart skipped a beat, and I swallowed my confession. I couldn’t give those three words to him. Not yet.

Could I mean more to him than ‘all kinds of wonderful’?

Could I be satisfied with less than everything?

I could. I could wait for him to give me more before I gave him everything.

He kissed the corner of my mouth. Nibbled the line of my jaw. Bowed his back to nestle his nose in my neck.

“I think you’re all kinds of wonderful, too.”

He drew back, his eyebrows arched. “You do?”

I cocked my head to the side. “Of course, I do, you silly man!”

His eyes widened at the insult then his mouth split wide, and he laughed.
