Encircling my waist, he pulled me close. “Good morning, Sleeping Beauty. You planning on getting out of bed anytime soon?”

A fleeting sense of deja vue teased the corners of my mind. Like a dream of a dream. One I intended to get right this time.

I nestled my bum into his groin. “Good morning, hot stuff.”

He chuckled. “I am hot stuff.”

“You are. I probably won’t be able to walk. Might have to stay in bed all day.”

“There’s no way I’m letting you escape what they have in store for us downstairs.”

“Did you explain to them that anniversaries are romantic celebrations between couples?”

He nuzzled his nose into my hair and kissed behind my ear. “I tried.”

“By tried you mean they looked at you with their big eyes and you agreed to everything.”

He harrumphed and slid his hand under my panties.

“You’re just trying to distract me.”

“Mm,” he hummed. “I shouldn’t start something I can’t finish.”

“You getting old? Can’t keep up with a young chick like me?”

“Who did all the work last night, little girl?” He continued without waiting for a reply. “Me. Both times.”

I laughed. “The second time nearly killed me.”

His big chest vibrated with laughter. “You and me both.”

Kid noise, the happy kind, drifted closer.

“Oh, fuck,” he exclaimed softly. “They’re coming. I apologize in advance for everything that’s about to happen. I’ll take you to Nick’s place for dinner tonight.”

“Mm, that sounds good. I love The Bard’s Bistro.”

“Dad!” Brayleigh’s big voice destroyed any hope of going back to sleep. “Your only job was to get her to sit up!”

“Did you really think we wouldn’t find them snuggling like a couple of pot-bellied pigs?” Sia scolded.

“Pot-bellied pigs?” Ares rose, half-insulted, half-confused.

“Don’t take it personally,” I advised. “It’s her latest quest.”

Rolling over, I sat up and took in our girls. Brayleigh set my coffee on the tray and Sia added a flower she picked from the garden and put in a little vase.

Our children loved animals and were hell bent on adding more and more to our home until I feared they might take over.

“For a pet?” he pulled away, piling pillows behind me as I sat up. “In the house?”

“They’re very clean, Dad,” Sia assured him before turning to me, her dark eyes twinkling. “Happy Famiversary, Mama.”

I laughed. “You’re determined to take over our wedding anniversary, aren’t you, Inky?”

“Yup,” she answered unapologetically.

Tall for her age, taller even than Brayleigh who was two years older, Sia’s black hair hung like a curtain to her waist. She had no interest in modeling which pleased Ares to no end.
