She held up her hands in surrender. “Okay, okay. No nicknames.”

“Not that one. It’s beneath me.”

She snorted out a laugh. “Not the only thing apparently.”

I huffed. “You have a dirty mind.”

She shrugged. “You’ve seen what I read.”

I returned my attention to my book.

“Are you going to talk to me?”

“No.”

“Really?” She cocked her head to the side.

Without looking at her, I replied. “Really. I only came over here to save your ass. Read your book.”

She huffed. “Okay.” She opened her book then looked at me sharply. “Don’t read over my shoulder.”

“I’ll borrow it after you’re finished,” I promised drily.

She laughed again, drawing the attention of half of first class.

I smiled internally. Pictures of her might not be enough. Perhaps some video.

Sure. Great idea. Not creepy at all.

“Ares-”

“Be quiet, Hope.”

“Rude,” she muttered.

Twenty minutes after take-off, her book tumbled from her hands and her head dropped to the side.

Tucking her book beside me on the seat, I eased her head onto my shoulder.

“Excuse me,” I whispered to the flight attendant. “Could I bother you for a blanket?”

With his assistance, I covered Hope’s legs and lay my head back against the seat. All my senses tuned into the steady rise and fall of her chest, the exotic fragrance of her silky hair, the soft puffs of her breath.

Certain she was fully out, I dipped my head and lightly pressed my cheek against her forehead. Cocooned around her, assured of her safety, I closed my eyes.

Surrounded by her fragrance.

Her warmth.

My breath synchronized with hers.

And I slept.

Only One of You.

Hope

Wake up, Aurora.
