“Woke up, tied to a chair.” My throat hurts, but I persevere. “Blindfold.”

“You didn’t see them,” Caleb confirms.

I nod, but say, “Him.”

“Only one guy talked to you, baby?” Alex asks.

Another nod.

“Is there anything you remember about him?” Caleb prompts.

“Accent. Russian.” I shrug, letting them know I wasn’t sure where the accent was from. “Smelled like Creed. Cologne.”

“That’s good, Sabrina.” Caleb smiles at me, and it makes me feel like I’m truly helping.

“Water drip.”

“Pipes, maybe?” Caleb asks.

I shake my head. “Don’t know.”

“That’s enough for now,” Alex says.

“Didn’t tell them.”

“What didn’t you tell them?” Caleb asks, but both are looking at me, perplexed.

“House number two and four. Not Howser.”

“That’s enough. Rest, Sabrina. In a couple of days, we’ll get more if it comes to you,” Caleb tells me and covers my hand with his, giving me a genuine smile.

Alex

After a coupleof days at the hospital, we’re ready to go home. Chloe ran over to Sabrina’s place to pack some clothes for her. I made sure to tell Damian that she wasn’t to go back to that apartment.

“Of course not. She’ll stay with us,” he answered when I brought it up.

“She’s with me.”

“Alex—”

“I’m not letting her out of my sight until we solve this case. That guy who did this to her is still out there.”

That was the end of that conversation, especially when I reminded him of the situation with Chloe and how he moved into her place in a heartbeat when she was in trouble.

Chloe’s helping Bri dress while Damian and I wait just outside her door. Every so often, we can hear her moan or gasp in pain. I grit my teeth, attempting to keep my anger at bay. Her arms and legs are bruised, and I’m sure most of her body is black and blue from being thrown from the car.

She was lucky to get away with severe bruising and a sprained ankle and wrist. The worst was her throat. In the middle of the night, Sabrina was stirring and mumbling incoherently. She was getting more and more agitated. She was beginning to thrash about when I decided to wake her, and when I did, she ended up in my arms, crying.

That’s when she told me everything. Sabrina told me how this guy would choke her until she passed out, then wait for her to come to and do it all over again. She said the worst was when he’d threaten to remove the blindfold and would start to pull it down, then laugh in her face. This guy taunted her over and over into thinking that she was going to die. He mentally tormented her.

By the time she was done, I was so pissed, I was ready to tear the city apart to find these assholes. I’d start with the goons who took her and make my way through to their leader. Instead, I slid in beside her in the hospital bed and held her close until she settled and fell asleep.

“Ready,” Chloe calls out.

I push the door open and see Sabrina sitting in a wheelchair, her hair neatly combed and pulled back into a tight bun like a ballerina. With her hair like that, she looks even more vulnerable. Her huge eyes gaze at me. She’s happy to be leaving the hospital, but only because we promised to book a follow-up appointment with the doctor for next week.
