I say over and over, “I’m not safe. I’m not safe.”

“Hurry home,” Chloe says, then she grabs my ice-cold hand, pulls me into her arms, and holds me tight.

“Oh my God. It’s never going to end. He’ll never leave me alone. Just when I think I’m free, he yanks me back into hell.” I cry against her shoulder. I don’t know how long I’m there, but eventually, the car door is ripped open and Alex shuffles me into his arms. He carries me into the house, then sits with me on his lap on the sofa, rocking me gently, soothing me with his soft words.

“It’s okay, querida,” he murmurs, caressing my back. “I got you. No one will touch you, baby. I promise you. No one comes near you.”

“He—He knows how to get to me.” I grasp his face between my hands. “I’m not safe. You’renot safe. I have to keep you safe,” I cry, needing him to understand.

“I’ll make us safe. Do you trust me?” he asks.

A guttural sob escapes my throat. “Yes, but—”

“Hush, buttercup. I’m on this. He’ll never get close to you, and with what he did, he just bought himself an addition to his sentence,” he says confidently.

But I can’t help feeling what I feel. “I’m scared.”

“I know. And Cameron will pay for that too.”

Sometime later,I can see that Sabrina’s doing much better. She’s getting changed in the bedroom, and Damian and Chloe come out of the kitchen to join me.

“I think she tuned out and didn’t get everything he said,” Chloe says.

“Maybe.” I sit on the edge of my seat, resting my elbows on my knees.

“He said he can get to her even from prison. What does that mean?” Chloe shifts her gaze from me to Damian. “Can he do that?”

“Only if he has a guy on the outside,” I say. “From the research I did before he was caught, he didn’t have any friends. He couldn’t keep a job longer than a couple of months, and his family was nonexistent in his life.”

“It’s time to see who he’s bunking with in prison. See if anyone was recently released, and then we’ll go from there,” Damian suggests.

“Sabrina’s doing well with her therapy. She told me the other night about how pleased her counselor was with her progress. She told me she was happy. For the first time, she was looking forward, making plans, and enjoying every day. That bastard is not taking that away from her,” I say.

“I called Caleb and Zeke. Told them what happened. Caleb is going to pay a visit to the warden tomorrow morning. Zeke is reviewing all the prison emails and phone logs. If he’s paid someone off, we’ll find them,” Damian says.

These men have my back and Sabrina’s. “I owe you.” I meet Damian’s gaze. He knows what this means to me.

“Fuck that. We’re all in this together. You were there for Chloe and me,” he replies.

Chloe links her arm with his. “What can I do?” she asks.

“What are the chances of Sabrina taking time off?” I wonder out loud.

“That’s worse. Then all she’ll be doing all day is thinking about what can happen and when. When she’s at work, she has a distraction at least. Plus, staff is always around. I can make sure that everyone is keeping an eye open for anyone who doesn’t belong.”

Chloe has a point. Sabrina’s taken control of her future, and forcing her to regress would buy right into Cameron’s plan to terrorize her.

“She’s never alone. When she’s not with me, there will be someone else watching,” I tell them.

Damian grins. “Mason?”

“Yeah. If he’s willing to take this on full-time until we get this sorted.” I want to make sure this guy is all-in. I’ve met Mason a few times, and he’s solid. He knows Damian from the army, and if Damian thinks he’s the right man, then I trust that he is.

“I’ll see if he can drop by now.” Damian gets up to leave the room, phone in hand.
