I couldn’t lie. The man could move. He worked the pole like he’d been born to, and just as I began to wonder if maybe we’d been mistaken to write him off, he did something that made me stare.

He stepped away from the pole to stand directly in front of us and began to move his pec muscles one by one in time with the music. At first, I thought I was seeing things, but then I realized I wasn’t. He was definitely making his pecs dance to the music.

And then it got worse.

He began to rub his nipples and hiss every time he touched them, as though they were burning. My mouth fell open as Duncan let out a choked laugh. I didn’t dare look at Jase, because I knew we’d both lose it, but I did glance at him out of the corner of my eye and could see he was rubbing his chin. A tell of his.

He was trying as hard as I was not to laugh.

Brodie continued to dance, treating us to quite the show. He thrust his hips and flexed his arms, kissing his biceps. The hissing continued and I was tempted to ask if he needed a fire extinguisher. I didn’t look at the men sitting either side of me, keeping my gaze strictly on the one who was clearly enjoying himself far too much.

Thankfully, the song came to an end. Brodie bowed with a flourish before giving us one final arm flex. “Look at these guns,” he crowed. “Your club patrons are going to love me! When do I start?”

I rose and cocked an eyebrow. “Slow down, cowboy. We still have other auditions to see before we make any decisions. Thank you for your time today. Duncan will be in touch with you when we’ve made a decision.”

He gave me a cheesy grin. “Don’t wait too long, darlin’. This body is popular and I have other offers.”

“Then feel free to accept them.” I gave him a tight smile. “We wouldn’t want to hold you back.”

We shook hands and Duncan escorted him out. I stared at the door, still not looking at Jase, but once laughter started to spill out of him, I finally turned my head toward him.

We both lost it, collapsing into loud belly laughs. I fell back onto the sofa next to him as we continued to howl, and Duncan found us that way. Every time Jase and I looked at each other we started all over again. Our laughter was infectious and soon enough, Duncan was laughing as hard as we were.

Once we’d finally quieted down, he cleared his throat. “So, we’re hiring him, right?”

That set Jase off again, but I just smiled. “Absolutely not. He’s too much of a show pony and I don’t think he’d play well with the other dancers.”

“I’d love to see the look on his face when you tell him he didn’t get the job.” Jase gave us a wide grin. “Well, that was a fun way to end the day.”

I tapped the larger of the two piles of folders on the sofa in between me and Duncan. “These are the ones we want.”

He picked them up and flipped through them. “Good, you want Luciana. I was very impressed when I interviewed her.”

“So were we.”

“Enough that we offered her the job on the spot,” Jase added.

Duncan quirked a brow at us. “That’s unusual for you two.”

“We didn’t want to let her get away.” I tapped her file on top of the pile. “There’s something very special about her. She’ll go far.”

Duncan nodded. “I agree. I’ll get the contract over to her and the other successful applicants.” He stood, picking up all the files. “Should I call Mr. Show Pony tomorrow and let him down gently?”

Jase and I exchanged glances before I spoke. “No. Wait a few days, give him time to cool down.”

“You’re a wicked woman, Emilia Quinn,” Duncan declared. “I wouldn’t want to get on your bad side.”

I kissed his cheek impulsively. “No, you wouldn’t.”

“We’re heading home.” Jase placed his hand on the small of my back. “Call us if you need anything.”

“Will do.”

We left Duncan at the club and headed home, where we both settled in our home office and spent an hour or so catching up on emails. Since we’d been offline for the auditions, our inboxes had once again become full. The stream of emails was never ending, and any time we managed to clear it more emails would pour in.

I sighed as I sent off the final email for the night, then shut my computer down. Standing, I stretched and looked at my best friend, who was still typing away furiously. “You nearly done?”

“Yep.” He didn’t look up at me. “Three more emails and I’m all yours.”
