“Got something.” Tucker’s commanding voice boomed down the line.

“I see it.” Dominic straightened up and peered closely at the screen, Julian doing the same.

“What is it?”

Julian’s gaze met mine. “We found a possible location. There are three heat signatures showing on the drone’s imaging.”

Three heat signatures meant three people. Emilia, Janet, and Helena. What had happened to the hired help? Had they killed him?

Or had they killed Emilia?

Fear and panic rose from deep within, darkness wrapping around my heart and squeezing it so tightly I could barely breathe.

“We should move now.” Julian stood, Dominic following suit. “Do a recon while it’s still dark and make sure we have the correct location.”

“Suit up, gentlemen.” Jack’s authoritative tone told me he was the team leader. “Call us when you’re on the road to talk strategy.”

“Will do.” Julian terminated the call.

I stood. “I’m coming with you.”

“No, you’re not.” Dominic’s voice was sharp and low.

I straightened my spine. “Yes, I am.”

“Jason.” It was Julian who spoke this time. “I know how worried you must be, but bringing you along with us only complicates our mission.”

I concentrated my gaze on Victoria’s ex. “I’ll stay in the car.”

“What if the man who took Emilia turns up and brings reinforcements with him? Then we’ve got to extract not only Emilia, but you as well.” He touched my arm. “I get it. You want to be there when we bring her out. But we can’t concentrate on doing our job if we have to worry about something happening to you, too.”

I knew what he said made perfect sense, but it still killed me to think about being left behind while they were rescuing the woman I loved. I let out a heavy sigh. “Okay.”

“Thank you.” Julian nodded. “Why don’t you find out what the nearest private hospital to this area is and start heading there? We’ll meet you there when we get her out.”

Connor, who had been very quiet up until now, got out of his seat. “Let me come with you. I’m former military.”

Julian turned to my head of security as Dominic shut down the laptop. “I appreciate the offer, brother, but someone needs to stay with Jason. We don’t know exactly how many tangoes are in play here. It’s possible they may also be after him and be waiting for him to be unguarded.”

“I can put some of my team on him.”

“Who is the best man on your team? Who do you trust most to shadow Jason and make sure he’s safe?”

There was a long pause before Connor answered. “Me.”

“Exactly. It’s essential we have someone here we know will do his job and keep Jason safe while we get Emilia. We don’t need to be worrying about two HVTs at once, get what I’m saying?”

My head was spinning. “HVTs?”

“High value targets,” Dominic explained.

Connor nodded. “Understood.”

“Give us your numbers. We’ll keep you in the loop as much as we can.” Julian held his hand out to Connor, who shook it.

He then turned back to me. “We don’t know for sure this is the location Emilia is being held, so we’ll have to do some reconnaissance first. Once we’ve confirmed we have the target in sight and can extract her safely, we’ll move.”

I breathed in deeply. “Okay. I trust your judgment.” I shook hands with the two men and then sat back down.
