I tumbled out of the bathroom window to the hard ground.

A short fall though.

I was fine.

The woman stuck her head out of the window and looked at me.

I popped up. “Thanks.”

“You’re just going to run?”

“No. I’m going to walk to my car and drive the fuck away from this circus.”

And that’s what I did.

Well, I did run a little.

The clock was ticking.

Poor Dave would be facing a weird reality very soon.

I really had no idea what gave him any kind of hint that we were close enough to even think about marriage. Or better yet - that I was the marrying type.

I couldn’t even commit to a favorite burner on the stove.

To say the night was a disaster was a total understatement.

Going back to my place was not an option.

In fact, I wanted to get the hell out of town.

And just like that… one name popped into my head… the one name I should have taught myself to forget…

Chapter Three

RIFF

My shirt clung to my body with sweat.

Nothing quite like an intense gym session to make the world feel whole again.

Not that I had anything wrong with my life.

It just felt good to beat the hell out of myself and get pumped up for some hockey.

I should have just showered at the gym.

I split because Abel got a little emotional talking about Wren being pregnant a second time. He was obsessed with taking pictures of Wren. And Izzy. He had a great little family all to himself.

Of course the second Lay feasted his eyes on a picture of Wren with her shirt up to show off her new baby bump, the conversation took a turn.

Lay wanted to know if Abel had pictures of Wren’s breasts, for the same reason as he had pictures of her belly.

To see everything get fuller. Bigger.

Abel wanted to kill Lay.

Lay looked toward me for some help.
