I climbed to my feet.

When I turned, the play had fully developed on the other end of the ice.

Maverick in position, waiting for someone to take a shot.

Remi and Reid trying to keep things under control.

Abel fighting for possession of the puck.

Lay and I on the outside waiting for a chance to get the puck to ourselves.

The tension built fast.

In my head I told myself if they scored even just one goal, the entire game would shift. All the momentum would go in their favor.

I refused to allow it.

I skated right into the mix of things.

Hitting the guy with the puck with my shoulder.

It was like kicking a hornets nest.

I didn’t care.

I fought for the puck.

I took a few hits that should have been called but weren’t.

When I felt a glove hit me in the face, my head snapped back.

Still no call from the refs.

I threw a punch back.

It almost felt like I was going to get into a fight.

Instead of fighting, I set my sights on the puck.

I grabbed it free with my stick and sent it back to Remi.

He turned and took it up a few feet before passing it to Lay.

Just like that all the momentum shifted in our favor again.

Someone took out Abel at center ice.

Another penalty the refs didn’t call either.

Lay and I had a two-on-one though.

He looked ready to pass to me and I shook my head.

The defender made his move for Lay.

Lay surprised everyone by dumping the puck behind the net.

On a breakaway…
