I took another deep breath and leaned forward.

Below me I heard a voice.

I looked down…

To see Remi starting to look up at me.

It slippedmy mind for a split second that my brother was obviously staying in the same hotel.

The second I saw Remi, I froze.

He was on his phone, talking.

His booming and strong voice carrying.

He turned and lifted his head just enough to make me panic.

I jumped up and turned, completely forgetting about the scalding hot coffee without a lid in my hand.

I tripped on the blanket.

I saved my balance but the coffee splashed up over the brim and onto my hand.

I threw the coffee to my right and screamed, “Fuck!” as loud as I could.

Now I was definitely going to get caught my by brother.

I jumped into the hotel room.

Riff stared at me, a confused look on his face.

I slid the balcony door shut and hit the lock.

“Remi,” I managed to say.

“What?”

“Remi was outside. Talking on his phone. I don’t know if he saw me.”

“Wait…”

I looked at my right hand.

It was bright red.

“Fuck,” I said. “I spilled coffee on my hand. It hurts.”

“Let me see,” Riff said.

I held my hand out, fighting back tears.

He touched the palm of my hand. “Oh, shit, Fi. Come here. Right now. “

He gently grabbed at my elbow and pulled me toward the bathroom.

The stinging pain from the burn ran through my body as my mind thought about Remi.

Did he see me? Did he hear me? Did he know it was me?
