I couldn’t look at my phone any longer.

The hockey game on television seemed to be on a commercial break for three weeks.

When it finally came back, the focus went back to the game.

A game that no longer had Remi and Riff in it.

I felt torn on who to text first.

My brother? Or the man I loved?

I loved them both. Yet I hated them both at the same time.

I ended up deciding against the texts.

Texts weren’t going to do a thing.

They weren’t good enough in this situation.

This situation…

I had to do a little face to face talking with my brother first.

Mari openedthe door and looked shocked.

“Fiona,” she said. “Did you see…”

“I saw,” I said. “I was watching it live.”

“Is this because…”

“Yes. This is all my fault. I’ve established that already, Mari.”

Honey strutted up to Mari’s right leg and sat next to her.

The dog stared up at me.

Nothing. No emotion.

Oh, great, the dog is mad at me too.

“I need to talk to him,” I said.

“He’s not here,” Mari said. “I haven’t talked to him yet. I called his agent. This is bad. This is unheard of. Two teammates…”

“They have a long history.”

“I’ve heard it all.”

“Remi told you everything?”

Mari nodded. “He’s my husband.”

“So you know about…”

“Everything,” Mari said.

“Is that why you’re not graciously inviting me in yet?”
