We knew better.

We had to get the hell out of there before the good Samaritan called the police. Or before he recognized who Remi and I were and started recording us with his phone.

Bad enough social media was already eating Remi and I alive.

Remi climbed into the passenger seat and I ran to the driver’s side.

I looked at the good Samaritan and waved.

Just a bee in the car! I’m allergic! Scared the hell out of me!

I got into the car and sped away.

Remi and I then sat in silence for a good five minutes.

Until he finally said, “Just a bee? You had to give a backstory?”

“What?”

“You could have just gotten into the car and drove away.”

“You’re pissed at me over that too? Does anything make you happy? Besides your wife’s pussy?”

Remi looked at me. “What the fuck did you just say?”

“Look. You wanted to fight me again. How many times are we going to do this?”

“Until I finally break you in half. Until I finally have you out of my life for good.”

“Oh, okay. So you’re going to kill me, Remi? That’s the plan? Go ahead. Kill me. Then what happens? What happens to your wife? What happens to your sister? Huh? You can’t stop her from loving me. You’ve been doing it all along. I realize that now.”

“Realize what?”

My hands gripped the steering wheel tight. “Nothing.”

“Don’t hold back now, Riff. We’re a fucking bloody mess again. You’re driving in circles, lying to me about where my sister is.”

“I know where she is!” I yelled. “I just don’t want her to get hurt again! By you or me!”

The car fell silent.

My voice echoed in my ears.

Remi pulled down the visor and looked at himself in the small mirror.

He wiped blood off the left corner of his eye.

“You need to cut your fingernails,” he said. “I think you cut me with one.”

“I had fists,” I said. “I didn’t slap you.”

“You sure about that?”

“Positive.”

“Well, you don’t know how to fight the right way.”

“Tell that to your face,” I said.
