“Then do that.”

“But I thought you could join the fun. It’s just you and me now, Riff. Let’s have some fun.”

It was at that moment when I thought about what happened with Fiona.

That mild slip-up on our end.

Caring.

She had shown up. She got what she wanted from me. Stayed a couple nights.

Which meant it was time for her to leave.

Which meant it was time for me to get back to my sense of normal.

“Just look at her,” Lay said. “I’m just trying to make her happy. Now, can I handle both of them? Sure I can. She’s not interested in that though. She’s messing with me, Riff. She’s teasing me. She wants to test me.”

“And I’m the guy you need for that test,” I said. “You want me to go out with her cousin. Feels weird.”

“I’m just putting it out there. Two beautiful women. They know nothing about hockey but they like the way we look. They like the rough stuff. On the ice. Maybe in the bedroom.”

“You know what, Lay? Sure. Why not? I’m not tied to anyone or anything. Sound good?”

Lay slammed his hand on the table. “That’s what I’m talking about right there, Riff! You’re the man. You’re the best. Man, what if we fall in love with these two? And we have this huge double wedding?”

“Or what if we don’t do that at all,” I said with a smile.

“And we just date them, back and forth between each other?”

“No,” I said. “That’s… no.”

“You need to live a little,” Lay said.

I kept a straight face but I laughed in my mind.

I need to live a little?

Lay… I have Remi’s sister in my place right now.

I’ve seen her naked more than I’ve seen her clothed.

We finished our beers and parted ways.

I got a ride home.

Halfway there, Lay texted me more pictures of this woman.

Then her phone number.

And finally - her name.

“Abby,” I whispered.

She looked like an Abby.

Whatever that meant.

I guess it was my job to now send her a text.
